I don't know what you mean by the r8 version. That nomenclature is not used anywhere to my knowledge.

Links to the latest maps and firmware are in the first post of this thread as Liam says.

A word of caution though. It's always a good idea to have the latest maps and speed cameras but really only update the firmware if you're having a problem

I have a link for July speedcams (thanks to Mytheuzen at GPS power) but unfortunately, although I've downloaded it, I'm in hospital (again!) and can't test it. It appears to be up to date though. Checking ZAR_POI.BIN.inf in the DATA > BASE1 folder confirms VERSION:20230703.

If someone could try it out and confirm I'll get the first post updated.

Clicky
File and update successful on both 2014 308 Active (which has 2 USB slots) and 2016 GT Line (which only has the centre console one!) images to show:-

During

After

Had to covert to standard zip file to unzip on laptop but worked fine.

Thanks for posting

Anyone know where the Traffic comes from on these units, I assume it piggy backs Classic FM or similar like the old TMC sat nav additions?

There is no traffic showing on mine now, but it has previously. Ive set a range of 12 miles and the line under the box is marked in the settings (assume this means On)

thanks

Liam

I don't know how the info gets to the satnav but it seems to be non-existent in the UK now. I did see it (a black line) while I was caught in giant snarl up on the ring road around Brussels just one week ago.

Thanks, there is a r8 firmware version download, latest. No issues with installed firmware, I was hoping that an update may make the screen a bit more responsive?

So, what version are you on? Did you upgrade to SMEG_5.4.B.R8: or is that where you started from?

I'm afraid that the screen is not the fastest in the world and there isn't much that will improve it. A lot of people have pulled the SMEG+ unit out and replaced it with the later NAC unit which is more responsive. This is a completely different system and not related to the SMEG+ at all.

I've stayed with the SMEG+ as it does for me and I only use it as a glorified road atlas anyway.

OK, that certainly is old, probably original fitment.

You could certainly try updating to a later version. But be aware of the problems if the update fails you could end up bricking your satnav. And as it controls the heating and radio as well that would be quite a loss.

Thanks, I have updated the maps which was the main thing to achieve, not sure thing that i will gain too much, may leave alone. Cars in peugeot for cambelt next week so may see if they will do it

Information from somewhere. Not too different from my theorising earlier.

"Peugeot is planning a next release Europe 2023/2024 as of October 2023. The new products will most probably be based on our database 2022Q4."

Probably from Here, suppliers of the map data.

Traffic information was only ever available for motorways and trunk roads managed by Highways England, and similar in Wales and Scotland.

Do you know how that information was transmitted to vehicles on the SMEG+ system?

Just to confirm, we're talking about traffic jams in plain words.
