SMEG+ Map and Speed Camera Update Procedure

In 2015 Paul Millard created a guide to Updating the Maps and Speed Cameras on the SMEG+ unit installed in the 2014 308's and some of the later 2015 + 208's. In 2017 Connected Nav (NAC) or Radio Couleur Connectée (RCC) units were fitted and these are not compatible with this information.

Paul Millard later sold his Mk2 308 and seldom visits the site and it has fallen to others to keep this thread up to date. His contribution has, however, helped many people and thanks and due credit is given to him.

The map and speed camera updates have been tested personally by me (Paul-R) in both SMEG+ and RT6 (also known as eMyWay, RNEG2, or WIPNAV+). They should also work for older SMEG and later SMEG+IV2 systems in other models.

Any time you play with software on a system that is not meant to be played with, you are risking damaging the system and / or voiding the warranty that came with it. Map Update Procedure SMEG+

This can be used as the basis for updating other systems. For all systems you click the Browse button of the Java Code Generator and navigate to the correct version of CCT.DAT.inf for your vehicle. These are contained within the mapping file that you have downloaded. The differences between these systems are as follows:

For RT6 systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the Root of the file.
For SMEG systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_UPG > DATA folder of the file.
For SMEG+ systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_PLUS_UPG > DATA folder of the file.
For SMEG+ IV2 systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_IV2_UPG > DATA folder of the file.

The links for maps and speed cameras are for Europe only. Europe maps used to be updated twice a year but as of 2024 will no longer be updated. The links below are the final releases.

Links for maps to suit other regions might be available - please ask.

If anyone has any feedback or constructive criticism then please add to the comments below.

NOTE. If you get the following error message:

Access to psa.download.navigation.com was denied
You don't have authorisation to view this page.

then a workaround is to highlight the URL in the address bar and then press the Enter button on the keyboard. You still get the error message but the ZIP starts to download.

Note that clicking on the Reload button on the screen or pressing F5 do NOT prompt the download.

You can also right click on link and choose "open link in a new private window". It will start downloading.

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS

If you get a protection error. Turn the car off, get out and lock it. Wait for the unit to go to 'sleep' (about 5 minutes). Then try again.

If you get any other error, or nothing shows at all, screenshot the contents of your USB stick and post them here.

For reference if you want to know how old your maps are, you can use the following in your Map Version to determine:

Thanks for this "easy to follow" guide! It works fine on my newly purchased swedish 2015 308.
The maps went from Gr406 -> Gr_418 (13_2 to 19_2 release if I understand it correctly)!
Having a NAV in the car is so nice, but only if the maps are up to date :)

Also updated the speed cameras database.
...and the FW was also updated from SMEG5.1.F.R4(Dated 21-02-14) to 5.43.A.R2 (Dated 19-09-17).

No issues found, just works smooth. Thanks!

Hi All,

I have created a guide to Updating the Maps and Speed Cameras on the SMEG+ unit installed in the 2014 308's and some of the later 2015 + 208's.

As far as I know, the Maps will also work for the older SMEG versions, and that the procedure is just slightly different. I do not have the equipment available to try this, so I cannot guarantee it. Perhaps someone will comment and update us at some point.

That said, it worked fine for me :thumb:

Where can I find the latest map versions? Latest here seems to be from 2019.. would there be one from 2021 already?

Hi everyone, I have a 2015 plate 308 SW and have upgraded the maps from Peugeot already. The firmware is SMEG5.2.C.R1 which firmware should I pick and are there any advantages of upgrading it anyway. Just all a little scary with everything being controlled via the screen, heating, radio etc and just want advice on what’s the best one. Much appreciated.

Hi!

I updated 10 days ago. I also have a 2015 plate 308. I upgraded from SMEG5.1.F.R4 to 5.43.A.R2 (since that was the latest one linked in the first post). I have not seen any issues with it. I have not read any release notes, so not totally clear to me what fixes they have done. Bugfixes, in general I guess?

Ok so have decided to leave well alone with the firmware upgrade (too much of a chicken haha) Other problem I seem to be having is putting the speed camera data from October 2019 onto the satnav. I have downloaded the zip file and extracted the file and put onto the USB Fat32. When plugging the usb in it briefly comes up with some warning and disappears? Any ideas at all? Thanks.

big mistake

due to the UK broadcasting both DAB and DAB+ signals side by side, in high reception areas, if the car see >99 stations the system crashes and the head unit reboots repeadely untill you drive to an area with fewer stations... if you search back, many here think its a BBC national multiplex issue its not... it bad orignal software and the sooner you fix the car the better

#2,374 ·
This rebooting issue started in September 2019, so can have nothing to do with DAB+. But it did coincide with the BBC changing their station logos that same month.
Add to this, as many others have also reported, if the SMEG unit is not on radio it would not suffer the reboot problem. Neither would it suffer if the radio was on FM.
AND if the radio was tuned on DAB to any non BBC national station it also did not suffer the reboot problem.
I did extensive checks on out 2008 to be certain of what the underlying cause might be. I contacted the BBC and double checked the coincidence with them which is when I found out they had changed their station logos on that date.

re reading a post about Merc's issues. They did two software updates in 2016, one around July, they thought they sorted the DAB issue (I think related to the logo fun), then in Oct 2016 they had to do another due to the >99 issues that were still causing issues

Smeg 5.41.B.R4 released 05.04.2016.
Smeg 5.42.C.R2 released 05.07.2017
Smeg 5.43.A.R2 released Jan 2018 ?

of course different software, the point is to confirm the introduction in the UK of dual broadcast of the now nationwide DAB+ service and the stepped back DAB service (like plant rock moved to DAB+ as did many others) in Feb 2016, caused many DAB/BAB+ tuner to wobble on their foundations, and ONLY started to behave after the required software updates were applied...

This week Ford release an update to 2018 to 2020 focus' with sync 3 and for many its broken the DAB+ logos. Quite clearly these bodging halfwits that write modern software have no idea what they are doing - seems the fix is to manually reload DAB File: 1U5T-14G658-AF_1598633324000.TAR.GZ from a USB stick

Unzip the file and put the folder on the fat32 USB. Switch engine on an leave running, put the USB into the port and just wait till it says do you want to update. Click yes and just wait till the process is done( be very patient and wait for around 10 to 15mins) and will eventually say do you want to update again, but then say no as its already done- you will notice both firmwares are the same.
