In 2015 Paul Millard created a guide to Updating the Maps and Speed Cameras on the SMEG+ unit installed in the 2014 308's and some of the later 2015 + 208's. In 2017 Connected Nav (NAC) or Radio Couleur Connectée (RCC) units were fitted and these are not compatible with this information.

Paul Millard later sold his Mk2 308 and seldom visits the site and it has fallen to others to keep this thread up to date. His contribution has, however, helped many people and thanks and due credit is given to him.

The map and speed camera updates have been tested personally by me (Paul-R) in both SMEG+ and RT6 (also known as eMyWay, RNEG2, or WIPNAV+). They should also work for older SMEG and later SMEG+IV2 systems in other models.

Disclaimer: This guide is meant for informative purposes only. Any time you play with software on a system that is not meant to be played with, you are risking damaging the system and / or voiding the warranty that came with it. If you choose to follow the instructions in this guide you are doing so at your own risk and you will be responsible if you damage your system.

Map Update Procedure SMEG+

This can be used as the basis for updating other systems. For all systems you click the Browse button of the Java Code Generator and navigate to the correct version of CCT.DAT.inf for your vehicle. These are contained within the mapping file that you have downloaded. The differences between these systems are as follows:

For RT6 systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the Root of the file.
For SMEG systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_UPG > DATA folder of the file.
For SMEG+ systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_PLUS_UPG > DATA folder of the file.
For SMEG+ IV2 systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_IV2_UPG > DATA folder of the file.

The links for maps and speed cameras are for Europe only. Europe maps used to be updated twice a year but as of 2024 will no longer be updated. The links below are the final releases.

Links for maps to suit other regions might be available - please ask.

If anyone has any feedback or constructive criticism then please add to the comments below.

Latest downloads:

2022-1 Maps. This contains the final updates for Central Europe, Eastern Europe North East. Scandinavia, South East Europe and Eastern Europe North West.

NOTE. If you get the following error message:

Access to psa.download.navigation.com was denied
You don't have authorisation to view this page.

then a workaround is to highlight the URL in the address bar and then press the Enter button on the keyboard. You still get the error message but the ZIP starts to download.

Note that clicking on the Reload button on the screen or pressing F5 do NOT prompt the download.

You can also right click on link and choose "open link in a new private window". It will start downloading.

If you get a protection error. Turn the car off, get out and lock it. Wait for the unit to go to 'sleep' (about 5 minutes). Then try again.

If you get any other error, or nothing shows at all, screenshot the contents of your USB stick and post them here.

For reference if you want to know how old your maps are, you can use the following in your Map Version to determine:

Gr_409 = 2015-1
Gr_410 = 2015-2
Gr_411 = 2016-1
Gr_412 = 2016-2

Gr_419 = 2020-1
Gr_420 = 2020-2
Gr_421 = 2021-1
Gr_422 = 2021-2
Gr_423 = 2022-1

Here's a tip for all you map-updaters, it'll make your life just a tad easier: there's no need to type in the licence code on the SMEG unit. Instead, when creating your USB stick with updates, go to folder

/SMEG_PLUS_UPG/DATA/

There, create a plain text file, name it "Licence" (no quotation marks, NO EXTENSION) and inside you put your 16-digit code. Now when you update, your code will be read automatically by SMEG, saving you the typing.

(so, the full file/path should be /SMEG_PLUS_UPG/DATA/Licence )

I found it especially useful when I couldn't upgrade all the maps at once but did it in 4 trips. If I had to key in the code every time, I'd be pretty mad. This way, just plug it in and that's it.

Once you have put in the code you can go back to adding more updates from the same source as often as you want. It won't ask for the code again.

The "official" download still requires the code to be keyed in. Well it did a couple of months ago when I did the latest one.

The radio unit is hidden behind the centre panel with the CD slot. On our car I noticed that this panel was loose a couple of weeks ago and it just pulled out easily, When I took a close look I discovered that the lower plastic fingers were broken away so yours might be more difficult. There might be some better information on how to do this in the "replace smeg unit with nac to get CarPlay" thread. If not I can't help on that.

https://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/308-2014-122/replace-smeg-unit-nac-get-carplay-330916/

Once the cover was loosened away I disconnected the plug and then took out the screws holding the radio and CD unit in place. Note that these are two different types - or were on my car!

I pulled both units forward and then took the plug off the CD unit, this allowed more space to pull the radio further out. I have read somewhere that it's important to take the big power plug off first. There are two smaller plugs (one of which goes to the CD unit) which have to be removed first and then the large plug can be taken out. Then I took the other plugs off.

Note: I didn't disconnect the battery but did wait a few minutes after closing the car door to power down the electrics before starting removal. You may prefer to disconnect the battery to safe.

With the radio on the table there are two security labels which have to be sacrificed. Five screws on one side and four on the other. Once the metal covers are removed I didn't have to take the plastic spacer off as the micro SD card is clearly visible along the edge of the circuit board.

As I said in the previous post I used Minitool Partition Wizard to do the resizing. There are quite a few other tools available free of charge. I just chose the one that was near the top of a list!

That's basically it. Reassembly is the reverse process. Positioning the looms when reinserting the two units into the console is tricky but I got there in the end.

Sorry, no photos. I was in too much of a hurry!

Thanks Dave,

I am looking into the themes.

What I have found out so far, is that the themes are referenced by a number (1-11).

And the cars are referenced by group. (A9, B78, G1 & G2) I believe the A9 refers to the 208. Have not a clue about the others.

I imagine that somewhere in the firmware, it checks what group the car belongs to, that in turn tells it what themes to allow.

The problem with that theory is, from looking at the themes and groups, my car only fits one group. And that group has 3 themes in, my car only has 2 installed?

I really want the redline theme, I am determined :D

Deleting countries

Paul, Thanks for posting that Map Update pdf. Was I glad to see that !!

The HERE download site just say put in the USB stick and follow ithe instructions. I am new to this great forum . I have a 308 allure [2014] and love it , but the TOUCHSCREEN satnav could have been a bit more "user friendly" . IS there an easy way to delete countries from the map ?
, as I am only interested in UK . It is a bit of a fiddle scrolling down the countries all the time !. Also is there an easy way to delete recent navigatons from the list ?
I am now on map 291/GR409 , and can put in 7 digit Postcodes [in City ]
FW . is SMEG5.1.FR4 ........NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE LATEST.

Is there any differance between mine and the latest ??.
Thank God for this Forum , and thanks for all your info.

cheers
:)

Hi, It certainly looks like your maps are on the latest version. Did you use the guide to update them?

The speed camera updates, you put in the USB stick and follow the updates, but the Maps require a few more steps as detailed in the guide...

As far as I know, the only way to delete recent destinations is to erase the unit from the settings menu. I think this may also erase speed camera information though?

The country on my SMEG+ now, stays on United Kingdom (England) unless I change it? I have slightly newer firmware than you, maybe it was introduced in this firmware? (SMEG5.2.x.x.x)

I got my firmware upgraded for free by informing my Peugeot dealer that it kept disconnecting from my phones bluetooth. This is an issue they will cover under warranty, and their immediate suggestion was to upgrade the SMEG+ Firmware. :thumb:

Thanks

A BIG Thankyou to Paul M1llard and any other contributors for the Smeg updates. I recently bought a new to me 308 Active blueHdi 15 plate. On picking it up I enquired if the car had recently had all the relevant software and map updates...... Yes, of course it has, came the smooth reply.
What a load of Bo11ax. Checked here on the forum for the relevant serial no version and mine hadn't been updated since the vehicle was first registered.
I've just spent the last few hours updating my pug, after following the posted help pages and utilising the software downloads on this forum to get my car up to date.
All firmware updates carried out...... Tick
All maps updated........Tick
Speed Camera updates........Tick
All installed without a hitch.
Once again, a BIG THANK YOU :D

Thanks for the thanks! Mechanics have so much to learn about the technology in these modern cars now, and most of them are not there yet. Being from a computer background myself I find it quite easy! Don't be too hard on the dealers :D

Glad you got it all sorted.

The latest SMEG+ Firmware download is here

Version 5.42.B.R4

https://mega.nz/#!PJBwTJ7a!uASPyYBs8cW9CDErpJhQJQG3if1jtYZ_ae5M6qvpFa0
This new firmware update is a massive improvement !!!
When you turn the ignition key on, the touchscreen immediately comes on now.
No more waiting for the peugeot logo to do its thing and then constant waiting for the screen to come on. Its now instant. You will notice a massive improvement. Other than that i haven't noticed any other improvements yet.

Hi People,

Getting loads of messages about the Java Generator and people having problems and telling me it's not working.

I can assure you that the Java Generator works perfectly. However getting a Version of Java installed on your computer that will run it, especially if you have a newer computer is a tricky thing to do.

I have always said two things:

1) Send me your VIN, Car Model and Map Version, and I will give you the code.
2) I will not help people to get the Java Generator working. As it's nearly impossible without being at the computer.

Please let me know if you still need help with anything else!

Hi all,

I've just completed updating my Peugeot 308 GT (15 plate) from 26028 (3rd Sep 2014) by installing all 5 firmware updates in order, putting me on SMEG_5.42.C.R2. I made a note of version changes during the updates and after each update in case it is of interest to anyone.

I've attached a spreadsheet showing the points at which versions changed. I havent done the satnav maps yet so they are all the same.

My main observation was that screen navigation became much more responsive. I can't say exactly which version addressed this.

As an extra (maybe overkill) precaution, after each update I did a factory reset and also switched off the engine for around 15 seconds. I used a Toshiba TransMemory U202 8GB USB stick. Each update took around 20 minutes.

BIG THANKS to PaulMillard and all others who have contributed their experiences. I look forward to trying out the map updates next.
