SMEG+ Map and Speed Camera Update Procedure

In 2015 Paul Millard created a guide to Updating the Maps and Speed Cameras on the SMEG+ unit installed in the 2014 308's and some of the later 2015 + 208's. In 2017 Connected Nav (NAC) or Radio Couleur Connectée (RCC) units were fitted and these are not compatible with this information.

Paul Millard later sold his Mk2 308 and seldom visits the site and it has fallen to others to keep this thread up to date. His contribution has, however, helped many people and thanks and due credit is given to him.

The map and speed camera updates have been tested personally by me (Paul-R) in both SMEG+ and RT6 (also known as eMyWay, RNEG2, or WIPNAV+). They should also work for older SMEG and later SMEG+IV2 systems in other models.

Disclaimer: This guide is meant for informative purposes only. Any time you play with software on a system that is not meant to be played with, you are risking damaging the system and / or voiding the warranty that came with it. If you choose to follow the instructions in this guide you are doing so at your own risk and you will be responsible if you damage your system.

Map Update Procedure SMEG+

This can be used as the basis for updating other systems. For all systems you click the Browse button of the Java Code Generator and navigate to the correct version of CCT.DAT.inf for your vehicle. These are contained within the mapping file that you have downloaded. The differences between these systems are as follows:

For RT6 systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the Root of the file.
For SMEG systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_UPG > DATA folder of the file.
For SMEG+ systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_PLUS_UPG > DATA folder of the file.
For SMEG+ IV2 systems the CCT.DAT.inf is in the SMEG_IV2_UPG > DATA folder of the file.

The links for maps and speed cameras are for Europe only. Europe maps used to be updated twice a year but as of 2024 will no longer be updated. The links below are the final releases.

Links for maps to suit other regions might be available - please ask.

If anyone has any feedback or constructive criticism then please add to the comments below.

NOTE. If you get the following error message:

Access to psa.download.navigation.com was denied
You don't have authorisation to view this page.

then a workaround is to highlight the URL in the address bar and then press the Enter button on the keyboard. You still get the error message but the ZIP starts to download.

Note that clicking on the Reload button on the screen or pressing F5 do NOT prompt the download.

You can also right click on link and choose "open link in a new private window". It will start downloading.

Thanks Dave,

I am looking into the themes.

What I have found out so far, is that the themes are referenced by a number (1-11).

And the cars are referenced by group. (A9, B78, G1 & G2) I believe the A9 refers to the 208. Have not a clue about the others.

I imagine that somewhere in the firmware, it checks what group the car belongs to, that in turn tells it what themes to allow.

The problem with that theory is, from looking at the themes and groups, my car only fits one group. And that group has 3 themes in, my car only has 2 installed?

I really want the redline theme, I am determined :D

Hi,

Is yours a 208 or a 308? As far as I know only the brand new (2015+) 208's have the SMEG+, All 2014+ 308's have the SMEG+, all others are the SMEG.

Quickest way to check is to hold settings on the screen, and it will load the System Information.

The latest firmware for the SMEG units is 3.21 (I believe)
The firmware for the SMEG+ starts at around SMEG4.x.x.x. to the latest which I believe to be SMEG5.2.x.x.x

Post your firmware level here and I'll let you know

Deleting countries

Paul, Thanks for posting that Map Update pdf. Was I glad to see that !!

The HERE download site just say put in the USB stick and follow ithe instructions. I am new to this great forum . I have a 308 allure [2014] and love it , but the TOUCHSCREEN satnav could have been a bit more "user friendly" . IS there an easy way to delete countries from the map ?
, as I am only interested in UK . It is a bit of a fiddle scrolling down the countries all the time !. Also is there an easy way to delete recent navigatons from the list ?
I am now on map 291/GR409 , and can put in 7 digit Postcodes [in City ]
FW . is SMEG5.1.FR4 ........NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE LATEST.

Is there any differance between mine and the latest ??.
Thank God for this Forum , and thanks for all your info.

cheers
:)

Hi, It certainly looks like your maps are on the latest version. Did you use the guide to update them?

The speed camera updates, you put in the USB stick and follow the updates, but the Maps require a few more steps as detailed in the guide...

As far as I know, the only way to delete recent destinations is to erase the unit from the settings menu. I think this may also erase speed camera information though?

The country on my SMEG+ now, stays on United Kingdom (England) unless I change it? I have slightly newer firmware than you, maybe it was introduced in this firmware? (SMEG5.2.x.x.x)

I got my firmware upgraded for free by informing my Peugeot dealer that it kept disconnecting from my phones bluetooth. This is an issue they will cover under warranty, and their immediate suggestion was to upgrade the SMEG+ Firmware. :thumb:

Yes, I used your instructions to upgrade maps, worked a treat ! [bought It from HERE -£69 ]
I will hastle my local Peugoet dealer for the latest firmware upgrade, as i am not happy to go near any of these free third party sites [ just in case it all goes wrong ] . Why oh why , did they not just put in a Postcode box ???.
This is completely differant beast to the old 308, what with electronic braking, stop start etc. It takes a bit of getting used to !!.
The build quality of the car is way ahead of the old models . Yes putting it back to Factory Defaults clears the old list . If there is somebody out there with the latest genuine firmware for the new 308 2014 , I would interested in buying it .

Good to hear. Keep checking the site that O got those maps off, as someone will undoubtedly update with newer version before long .Especially the speed cameras.

My work car has most of the bells and whistles in terms of electric brakes and hill start assist, so i am pretty used to it. But it was a change when i first started using it.

Peugeot were very secretive about the whole update process with me, they did it for me, but there was not a hope in hell of me getting a copy of the USB stick. (I tried). I am not so keen to be downloading dodgy firmware off the internet either. The system validates the firmware before it updates it by all accounts, so if someone has messed around with it, it will likely not install, but not worth the risk in my opinion.

I find it a bit annoying that if you put in the country, city and street, you can then out in a house number. But if you put in a postcode... you cant then put in a house number! Who designs this bloody things?!?!

Where to find the speedcam file?

I just found your great manual how to update the speedcam info for my peugeot 308sw.

At the end there is a link to the speedcam file but as you already mentioned.. .the file is not there anymore.

Can you tell me where to find it (through a PM)?
I have tried to sent a PM but I can not because I am a new member.

Hi Mate,

I had a quick look but I cannot find an active link on the GPS page at the moment. I can see someone has commented asking for a re-upload so hopefully it will happen soon. I will check every now and then.

Also, looks like there is a group buy to purchase the October versions of the Maps coming soon as well. I have bookmarked it and will inform people when I spot it is available for download!

#23 · (Edited)
As Promised, I was part of the Group Buy for the RT6/SMEG/SMEG_PLUS 2015-2 Sat Nav Updates.

These are the latest (October 2015) maps.

I was not going to give the link straight away as people (including myself) have only just paid for these.

However someone has made the link Public now, so I thought I may as well share it with you guys!

Use the same guide to install them if you need it, and the Java Generator link is underneath too.

Can I find somewhere what has changed in the maps?
In this new Peugeot map update approximately 14 164 roundabouts, 286 594 street names, 15 130 one way streets and 39 764 turn restrictions have been added or amended.

Thats about the only information I have seen at the moment, its from the Peugeot Website:

What firmware are you on? As a general rule Maps, Speed Cameras and Firmware updates are chargeable... You can often get around the firmware updates by saying there is a problem... The dealers will normally update the Firmware to resolve the 'Problem'.

As for the Maps and Speed Cameras, they are the Genuine Peugeot Maps, I was part of the Group Buy, and he posted receipts and Pictures of the DVD it came on etc... You won't / cant void any warranty by updating maps / speedcams.

My personal stance is that I wont do firmware files myself. There is barely any chance of it going wrong, however if it does, I would rather the Dealer have broken it... As they will have to fix it. Sat Nav and speedcamera updates are perfectly safe :thumb:

Hi Paul,

Firstly, thank you again for your tremendous work in preparing the guide and your help in educating us into the ways of the SMEG+ system.

I have a 308 Feline with SMEG 5.1.F.R4 and DbDw_281/GR_406, and I would certainly like to upgrade the maps and install the speed camera addition.

I understand your comments about firmware upgrades, so in your opinion, would I lose anything by installing the maps and speed camera data onto my existing 5.1 firmware ?

All the best,

Mike

#33 ·
Hi Mike,

No worries! Happy to help!

I would skip the firmware if you have not got any problems, as far as I know 5.2 did not add any features...

You will not lose any settings / contacts (fave locations / options when installing the Maps / speedcameras. (I didnt)

My map version is DbDw_291/Gr_409 and when I checked mine on the Peugeot maps website it didn't show any update for the 2015 model.

I queried this with my service guy and he said that if the 2015 model wasn't shown then that means there's no update available.

I think though that as we are still in 2015, then any update from Peugeot will not be available until we are out of the current year.

This update via Paul seems to be a great idea. :thumb:

#34 ·
 That is strange?! If you go to the Peugeot Navigation website and select Model: 'New 308' you cannot select the Year 2015. However if you select the Year 2014 (which mine is) you can see the option to buy these maps for £130 (feel free to make donations to PayPal )

Even though we all have the same Headunit!

Looks like they need to update their website a bit!

Doesnt work :-(

Here are the latest speed cameras for RNEG / SMEG / SMEG+

Download them while the link still works!

Hi Paul

I'm new here, sorry if i ask stupid questions

This one didnt work for me. says something about not able to copy or something like that.

This file contains more files then the updates before, where are there for ?

Kind Regards and keep up the good work !

#39 ·
Ok, with that car you have likely got the same Headunit as mine, the SMEG+ so they should work as they have on mine.

Can you please tell me what firmware and map version you are running?

To do this, hold the 'Settings' icon for about 6 seconds. You will enter a menu that will allow you to view these things.

Also, have you made sure that the USB stick is formatted to FAT32. And that the files are copied exactly as they are in the folder. (You can not have anything else on the USB stick or it will fail)

#41 ·
OK so you are running the same firmware version as me.

The USB stick needs to be formatted to FAT32.

ALL files need to copied to the USB Stick exactly as they are in the attached guide. If you add or remove any files, the update will likely not work.

Also your engine has to be running for this to work I believe.

#43 ·
I'm going to have to do this when I get my car back. I'm interested to know how to add custom POIs. I tried following a guide on the web but failed. What format does it need to be in? One of my backoffice guys has managed to export our client database to a POI for Garmin and TomTom so I'd like to use these or work out what format they need to be in.

Hi,

Not sure, haven't seen this done before. Although there are 3rd Party Speed Camera list so it must be possible.

This could be handy for me as well, I could add all the sites I visit for work in. I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, but if I figure it out. I will post it here.

Hi guys,

I am new here but thanks a lot for such a great forum. I have just updated the map in my parents 2 day old 308 SW. However, after the installation the navigation said that the mapping was successfully updated but I am still seeing the same version # in the setting as I was seeing before the update. Currently the map is DbDw_291/Gr_409
This is not the newest version, correct?

Have any of you guys tried this or do you know what went wrong?

Thanks

#46 · (Edited)
Sorry for a stupid question but where do I find the VIN number and how many characters (and format) should it have.

EDIT: Found it! And managed to update my maps without problems. Finally that big, new bridge in my area is also present on the maps :)!

1) When I am downloading the file from Mega I am getting 8 .rar files (part 1-8) is this correct or is it related to the fact that I am using a Mac?
2) If the above is correct am I then suppose the merge these parts or should I just extract them and then only use the files from part 1?

Thank you very much in advance.

#49 ·
Hi,

Apologies, haven't been on the forum in a while. Yes, the one file is split into smaller files. When you attempt to extract one of them, the computer will realise that it is a split file, and extract all 8 parts into one directory.

So use all the files from the extracted folder and you should be fine.

#50 ·
Thanks a lot, it is all working now :thumb:

However, is it really true that 2015-2 is based on data collected in Q4 2014?
In 2015 a lot of new roads has been built in the area I live (Copenhagen) but none of them is in the 2015-2.
Does anyone know when the next update is likely to be released?

#53 ·
I did my update last week. It took two hours to do all regions available. Managed to do a work trip. Was able to listen to radio while it updated. My car was a April build but came with January maps. I see the Nov 15 specification implies free updates for 5 years. I think my build is restricted to number of updates. So pleased I can locate freebie updates myself.
