SMEG+ Map and Speed Camera Update Procedure

2.9M views 3.2K replies 500 participants last post by  Paul-R
My map version is DbDw_291/Gr_409 and when I checked mine on the Peugeot maps website it didn't show any update for the 2015 model.

I queried this with my service guy and he said that if the 2015 model wasn't shown then that means there's no update available.

I think though that as we are still in 2015, then any update from Peugeot will not be available until we are out of the current year.

This update via Paul seems to be a great idea. :thumb:

I don't know whether I clicked on a wrong key but when I tried to download the Java Generator for Maps Key I had a loud voice and screen message telling me I had to send money to get my computer cleaned as I had infected my system and on no account should I attempt to buy anything on line.

Every time I tried to close it came up again and again.

I have now removed it and run a clean up but wondered where I went wrong with this link.

I had successfully downloaded and transferred the maps data to a new USB stick and this frightening message only came down with the Java link when I opened it and clicked on the 'Download Now'.

Any comments or advice please?

Al.

UPDATE: The full page warnings/adverts that are generated can be ignored as the download shows in a very small window bottom left of the screen.

I saved it to a folder and followed Pauls guide to obtain my code.

Tomorrow is another day.....

Many thanks to Paul for his extra help and advice. Al. :thumb:

You have to open the folder 2016-1 and transfer each of the files onto the memory stick.

You should have 19 items to transfer.

Only transfer the files at this stage from 2016-1.

Hi allan40alt, thanks for your reply. It is not the latest maps that are giving me the problem. It is the latest firmware, SMEG+ 5.41.B R4. At least I am not alone is having it fail. Perhaps comments from other users will confirm whether or not the file is corrupted, or, not intended for a 508GT 2015 with a 7 inch touchscreen.
Best regards, Martin.
I haven't tried the software update yet.

May have a look at that next as I'm on SMEG5.2.C.R1.

Paul will be along to advise I'm sure.

Map update worked well. I was on DbDw_291/Gr_409 now I've got DbDw_303/Gr_411.

For the benefit of myself and other 'Silver Surfers' who may be doing an update of this kind for the first time, can I please confirm which folder or files I need to load onto the USB memory stick.

I've formatted my stick to FAT32 and I've opened folder SMEG_PLUS_UPG on my PC.

I can now see 27 items.

7 are folders and 20 are files.

The 7 folders I was going to ignore and then 'send' the 20 files to the USB stick.

These start at AUDIO_BT_256_ctrl and go down to USERGUIDE_ctrl (is that last file needed?).

Then I read the recent comments by Paul and understood that the whole folder needs to be downloaded. ie: Go to where I've saved the SMEG_PLUS_UPG and just 'send' it to my USB stick without opening it and sending individual items.

When I view my USB stick I then see one folder which I can open to see the contents of 7 folders and 20 files.

Thank you.

The first downloaded file was 5.4.B.R6.rar which I opened with the 'Opener Pro' app. and saved to file (it asks for the password before opening and saving).

The second download though is 5.4.B.R8.zip which opened fine but said 'password protected' when I tried to install it in the car.

How do I open a .zip file that's password protected? Do I use Windows Explorer, WinOpener or is there a good app. for Win10.

UPDATE: Now resolved. See posts #279 and #280

That new app. worked just fine.

System now upgraded to 5.4.B.R8

I did try to save it with 'Opener Pro' which it did. Trouble is it didn't ask for a password hence the 'password protected' warning.

The '10 ZIP RAR ARCHIVER' app. worked just fine and I saved it directly to the USB stick.

Now have SMEG5.41.B.R4 installed.

Those updates all worked just fine, even if I did have some hiccups.

As Paul said to me, they don't bring out upgrades for no reason so it's good to keep it up to date.

Sorry I might be a bit off topic with this, also might be in the many pages of this topic.

Those of us a bit frightened to do these car firmware updates and Map updates how do we get them both please?

Are they done at a normal service or is it something to be asked for and charges made?

Thanks
Depending where you are located I'm sure a member who lives nearby, who has done the updates, will be pleased to assist you with the download and install if you get stuck.

The links you need together with passwords to open the files are in the first post. Paul has provided an excellent guide.

PS: The update may not be suitable for earlier models.

Just got back from my main dealers after a fruitless journey to get a map update, was told dealers do not update maps and Peugeot supply the free updates downloads to customers to update for themselves.

E-mail as gone to Peugeot to ask for the procedure and download.

Here's the Peugeot website for maps:

Peugeot | Home | HERE

You will have to enter your VIN and select your car.

You will also have to register your details and select the update you require and, presumably, add your 'free maps' update code on the final page.

I'm guessing they will advise the 'how to' procedure with the update download.

I may be wrong but I think it only shows the speed limit where it is available; so if a Council doesn't operate the system outside of the main Towns then you can't receive it. Otherwise you always receive the info so there's nothing to set.

Must say that since I did the software and maps/camera updates I am now getting a warning 'bong-bong' when I near a speed camera and a further single 'bong' when I've passed it. The speed camera location is also shown on the map display.

Previously I never got any warning.

Excellent updates so I'll add my public thank's to Paul for this Thread and also for the extra help he offers people via his PMs.

I get the speed cameras warning on both sides of the road and also if they are based on a centre island.

Interestingly I mentioned the updates to a friend of mine in our Peugeot dealership this morning and he said his service guys told him it is not possible to activate the speed sensors in the UK.

I told him I now have them and they work just fine. They beep a warning when approaching and are visible on the screen map.

His service guys also told me they don't do software updates unless there is a problem with the current version that's installed.....they also said I had to get the maps from Peugeot and install them myself.

I reckon that dealers just don't like spending the time doing updates.

Thank goodness we have this thread from Paul to 'do-it-ourselves'!!

Is anyone else having issues download the speed cameras or is it just me?

Have you done the software updates? My dealer mentioned to me that my 2015 version didn't have the speed cameras...that's when I said I had updated to the current software and the speed cameras now work just fine.

According to Peugeot in Denmark there is no update for my smeg+ unit.
So I guess, I will have to do the updating myself.
Or is the one I posted earlier the lavest version. ( I doubt it)
My dealer also told me that.....but if there is a more recent version then there's a reason for it; so I did it.....Oh; and the maps also. :thumb:

It's a long time ago that I did mine and at first I had a similar problem.

The file you selected to get the code I think will have been on the left of the screen window. The file with almost identical name that you need for the code is on the right of the screen.

I also used the left file and got the same message. I then realised after speaking with Paul that the file I actually needed was the other one on the right.

Using the other file gave me a different code that worked fine.

Paul will be able to explain this better I'm sure....I just hope my old memory has remembered correctly!!
