Surely this would have been noticed by MOT tester? I will check tomorrow to see if there is any play in the CV joints

 

Not always I just had to change one on sons car (my old DS5) he had a slight vibration on overrun and a slight tick when reversing.

I could find no obvious play anywhere and took a gamble on it being CV has it had a split boot on that side a year or so before.

With it jacked up up still no play but as soon as I took shaft out of the hub it was as obvious it was fubar'ed it had about 10mm of in/out movement and was loose to turn

So after further investigation today I noticed as shown in the picture the rear arm on one side was bent. I have replaced this and the car feels better but not perfect. I reckon I will have to get the tracking redone as it had just been done but with the bent arm.

 

Well that wasn’t the issue. The car is no longer slipping but steering still tough. Perhaps might be the steering angle sensor. Not sure where this is located though as eBay shows a plug raw yate sensor and other sites show it behind the steering wheel

Hi back on topic chaps please....the title is.....'Steering Issue'.......

 

So Autocom was plugged into it. When I went into steering check it came up saying no faults. When I then turned the engine on it came up saying ABS and ESP fault. Now getting fault code saying ECU problem with power steering and internal fault with power steering ECU

 

To update thread. New steering pump was installed. Issue remains. Car steering still doesn’t correct itself. Next step is replace the steering angle sensor. This will be done tomorrow.

 

To conclude this issue the problem was the steering rack. Last thing done as it is sub frame dropped to do it but car is now roadworthy again

I don't suppose you can recall how much this set you back? Trying to get an idea on price as I believe I have the same issue.
