I’m not sure what this forum’s policy is regarding mentioning or redirecting to other forums (let me know if this post is against a rule) but if I can’t find any files for the car I go to gpsunderground as there’s always someone with the files there..

Turns out there's not enough free memory in the system to install the latest map updates.

I've just erased all the maps & then installed the latest UK ones.

I have a 2017 308 Allure. I have downloaded the mapping updates from the Peugeot website as part of the free updates offer. They are now unzipped onto a usb stick and ready to go along with the DRM activation code.

My question is how long approx does the update take to complete approx ? I believe the engine has to be running while the update takes place , but the vehicle not being driven.

Also are there any known issues or pitfalls I should watch out for.

Many thanks is advance.

15 min for deleting the old maps
Think it was about 90 minutes for the update......

USB Fat32, not a to old USB Stick... reasonable speed

If you're doing a map at a time it depends on the size of the update file. For a small area (central Europe for instance) about five minutes, larger areas (such as Germany) about fifteen minutes.

Yes, the engine has to be running but you can do the update while you're driving. I hate the thought of wasting fuel just ticking the engine over so I try to plan the update to coincide with journeys - as I did today. In a journey broken in to two twenty minute sections I updated four maps. Coming back the journey was more broken and I did three maps. Still got two to go I think.

If you normally have your phone connected by Bluetooth then leave it unconnected as it just gets in the way. Don't worry (too much) about switching the engine off if you have to as the unit will retain the activation code providing you don't take the USB stick out. When you restart the update process it will remember all the maps which have been updated.

I finished off the map updates on the 308 yesterday and, as is well known by now, there is not enough on board memory for all the countries. I elected to delete, and do without, Eastern Europe, North East. There is 398.6MB free space left and Eastern Europe, North East is 1644.6MB in size so this gives some measure of how much more information (1246MB) there is now!

It's also worth knowing that the France data is unchanged from the 80Km/h update last year.

I did ask Peugeot Customer services why their instructions for the map updates doesn't mention that there is not enough space. They had already aknowledged that there was a problem.
They closed the enquiry.

I have just downloaded the new 2019-1 map updates and tried to install them this morning, on my commute to work.

What i don't understand, is the maps themselves are about 5.1GB of space.. and from what i remember the radio/Unit has about 6GB of space internally for the maps... what happend to all that space? there must be some junk files.. because even if i delete all my maps and install the new ones from scratch, there is still not enough space for even half of them...

Has anyone tried to connect to the unit via serial cable or parallel?

From what i have seen, when upgrading the units firmware, it is running some form of Unix/linux... so i am very curious if it is possible to gain access to the unit, via ssh or something else...

I am not using any of the space for the "jukebox" that has some GB of space for music tracks... so if i could somehow reformat that space and add that to the maps partition that would be great, and possibly solve the issue with not enough space for the maps.

I have also pondered many of the same questions. I'm surprised that you can only update half of them as I managed to update all bar one - see my post 1568 on the previous page. Do you have the same maps installed in Denmark as we do in the UK? Specifically, do you have Russia installed as we don't.

I don't run with anything on the Jukebox except the sample files that came with it. Similarly I don't put any of the speed camera information on and I wondered whether that takes up any of the map data space. The file and folder structure of the speed camera update I downloaded looks very similar to that of the map data.

Delving inside? Waaaay to risky for me. I wouldn't want to have to buy a replacement head unit. But if anyone else is willing to have a look I'll ride along their coat tails!

There isn't enough system memory free to install all of the latest map updates.

I've just erased everything bar the UK ones as that's all I'll use.

True! I have also had a "no space available" to do the update, and I went around by updating UK only.

But yes, I do wonder too if every map update is leaving junk behind!

Thanks

I've always managed to install all but one area, normally forget about Eastern Europe anyway. But I have all of Western Europe.

There seems to be some disparity in updating experience here.

I wonder whether some people, once they've deleted a bunch of maps, are still trying to update all of them? It just won't work. But what should work is deleting a bunch and choosing all bar one of the ones you've deleted. Having said that, because I was updating over several journeys, I didn't do it that way!

Now on my commute home, i tried to update the last part of the maps.

Now here is the weird part... when i had the car shut off and turned it on a couple of hours later, there was suddenly about 700mb free space for additional maps.. and i was able to update all maps except Portugal-Spain.. i also noticed that the total space for maps is 6.9GB... and the latest maps is 5.5GB unpacked... so there is definitely something that is filling up the unit..

Does anybody have any info about the smeg unit? some developer manuals or anything?.

I cant really see anyway to connect to the unit and reprogram it and look in the system...

I just started the update, but doing only one or two countries at a time. Then as soon as I get the message about lack of space I delete an area I will never need and proceed to update the remainder.

HI Paul-R, sorry i missed your question.

The cars in Denmark get the Europa maps, and with that, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. it looks something like the picture in the following link

https://peugeot.navigation.com/stat...ite/-/Shop/en_GB/Peugeot EMEA/Product Images/Peugeot_navigation_maps_Europe.jpg

But i am not sure, i will have to look for it tomorrow and maybe take a picture.

I've been looking at some information about the data. I checked the size of the maps in the 42028 download.

CID:001, ITALY 425MB
CID:002, FRANCE 657MB
CID:003, SPAIN/PORTUGAL 571MB
CID:004, BENELUX 193MB
CID:005, UNITED_KINGDOM 324MB
CID:006, SCANDINAVIA 541MB
CID:012, GERMANY 505MB
CID:013, MIDDLE_EUROPE 162MB
CID:016, RUSSIA_(R) 681MB
CID:020, SOUTHERN_EASTERN_EUROPE 352MB
CID:021, NORTH_EAST_EASTERN_EUROPE_(R) 377MB
CID:022, NORTH_WEST_EASTERN_EUROPE 420MB

And this totals 5.09GB. But it opens up another can of worms! As I posted the other day, the satnav reckoned that Eastern Europe, North East is 1644.6MB as opposed to my measured size of 377MB. Even adding in the Russia map (which doesn't show up on the screen) only gives 1058MB. It, quite literally, doesn't add up.

I was beginning to think that I was getting a handle of the map updates. Now I'm really not so sure.
