In looking at info on programming remote operating keys I keep coming across the acronym "PLIP" yet I can't find out what it actually stands for.

Related to searching for info on making a new key for a 2002 206 1.4 Diesel HDI

Storeman is actually correct the person he mentioned works/worked for neiman who make locks and the plip system was actually his creation and also used in renaults the first versions used a simple system that could be programmed using solder links i still have 1 here from an espace.

These were used in the first espaces and clios renault 21 25 also 205 405 505 citroen bx etc and these were the first to be called plip i believe it is part of his name that the name came from i remember a discussion about it many years ago on the matra forum
