Programming and new key

I recently purchased a 308 - the 307 popped a cam belt on the motorway and had to be scrapped.

I have pp2000 and the pin code - so am about to crack on and program a spare key.

In the course programming the keys - pp2000 asks me to turn the ignition to +APC and also +IGN - does anyone know what key positions these are?

Thanks for the info.

For everyone else - here's a couple of things I've found out whilst trying to get a spare remote key for my 2008 308:

1 - vin to pin does not always work - if you do not know the full history of the car - it may have at some time in it's past had the pin and/or key cutting number changed - both of mine had changed;

2 - in the case of 1 - the only way to find the pin is for someone to plug in a piece of kit and to read the pin from there - there are 2 pieces of kit which do this - you don't know which one will work with your car until it's plugged into the car;

3 - this is a BIGGIE - on 2/9/2016 Peugeot changed their supplier of remotes from Eurocir to Delphi. Delphi are the ones with the battery housed on the circuit board. The remote open/close buttons on a Delphi remote will not work with your car unless:

- your car originally came with a Delphi remote, or

- you have taken your car into a Peugeot garage and they have changed your BSI settings.

I've looked for the relevant Technical Service Bulletin but can't find it on the net. I'd be interested to see a copy if anyone has access.

So the moral of the story is - get the code read directly from the car - and if you have a Eurocir remote and want to replace - you have to buy a chinese clone - Peugeot don't make them any more.

I'll shortly be able to answer the killer question - can you still use the old remote when you add a new remote - watch this space....

You MAY find what actually happened is the cars ecu set was changed at some point so it needed the vin from the BSI/doner vehicle to get correct pin.

When people change the BSI they sometimes change the vin stored in it this then makes it impossible to use the vin to pin service as you no longer have the correct vin !!

A final bit of info. for anyone who may be interested:

from 2008 to late 2009 - the Pug 308 used FSK;
from late 2009 onwards - the Pug 308 used ASK.

If you have a look on ebay - FSK remotes are far more expensive (than ASK) and there are fewer sellers.

So if you buy a replacement remote and after programming, it starts the car, but the remote doesn't work - it could be that you are using an ASK remote when you need a FSK remote.

Top tip - if you want a FSK remote, but don't fancy shelling out a load of dosh - they are sold on Aliexpress for around ÂŁ8 a pop.

Final, final piece of information for any early 308 owners out there looking for a replacement key fob.

The chinese clone FSK keys work - I've just programmed one - engine starts and remote lock/unlock works.

So buy from Aliexpress and not ebay if you want the best price.

I've attached a picture that you may well have seen on the net if you google the subject of pug FSK and ASK key fobs - it is wrong - my original FSK key is identical to the supposedly ASK pcb.

Ignore the picture that I included in my last post - I was just making the point that it is wrong - for anyone else who may come across it.

That ebay key fob will be an ASK signal. The board looks like it is an original Eurocir - the board in the key you receive will be a clone - so will not look exactly the same as the sellers picture.

Either ASK or FSK will start the car.

If the ebay fob doesn't work for remote locking/unlocking - then you can buy an FSK from Aliexpress - and it will be delivered in 7 days going by my recent experience. Aliexpress sellers seem to be more knowledgeable about their key fobs - many on ebay are simply resellers.

You can't read the PIN code with PP2000 - Bettyswollocks hasn't been seen for some time - but Trustme will be able to provide the PIN from your VIN code - or he can read direct from the car. I've mentioned the risks of VIN to PIN in my earlier post.

You can get the key blade cut via ebay for ÂŁ10 - using either the key code or photos. Just to clarify - PIN code opens up the BSI ecu and lets you program the key with PP2000, key code is a number which allows a lock smith to cut the correct key pattern - they are different numbers.

Last bit of info - you can use an old key blade on a new fob - a pin holds the blade in place - and can easily be removed with a small punch (or similar).

Thanks again!
We have one key my plan was just to get a spare. Can't I just take the key to like Timpsons to get the blade cut from the original key? That's what I thought I could do anyway then programme the new transponder through planet. Once I've retrieved the Pin. Trustme I think is in Bradford which is 20 mins away from work how much does he charge? Something else that has confused me on reading around people say when you program the key do both, confusing cos I've read you can only program a virgin board/transponder so how do you reprogram the original?

Timpsons can do it - but I believe they charge MEGA BUCKS.

Trustme is an autolocksmith - so he will also be able to extract the PIN code from the car and probably cut the key as well.

How much he will charge - I have not idea - that's his decision.

There seems to be conflicting advice - which is why I started this thread off - I'm not a regular visitor to the forum - but thought that people would like to hear my experience of getting a new key - this will be my last post for some time.

The used/new key issue:

- transponders can be programmed only once;
- you cannot use a key which has already been programmed to another car;
- if you want to program a new key and still use your existing key - they must both be 'programmed' at the same time. By 'programmed' I mean the new key is programmed and the existing keys code is added to the list of codes to be accepted. So the existing key isn't really programmed as such - it's code is simply added to the list of codes that the car can accept. The car can accept a maximum of 5 different codes;
- the new key must be programmed first (I've no idea why).

So, don't buy a 2nd hand key - it won't work with you car.

Something that caught me out was syncing the key to the car - follow the instructions to the letter (as provided by PP2000) - don't try and rush the process as it will all go belly up.

That's it for now - I'm off :thumb:

I'm assuming that this is the same process for the 3008 as well? I've tried programming an extra key as I only have one but even though I'm able to get the key working with starting the car it will not lock/unlock the doors. I've followed the instructions to the letter but no joy. I wasn't aware of the different types of key other than the battery type ie. On the board not in the key body. What is the ask Vs fsk? And how do you know the difference between the two?
Thanks for any information about this. 👍
