At lot of the discussion between me and @ManxViking were via PM so I have attached some of the information I gave him which relates to the traction motor and battery.

In theory the diesel engine should be largely independent of the electric traction system. I think the code P0215 relates to the engine fusebox (BSM). However, if understand the situation properly ManxViking was not able to get his diesel engine to start unit he swapped the traction battery from another car. The traction battery incorporates one of the hybrid ECUs. The odd thing is both cars worked after he swapped the traction batteries between the two cars. My guess is removing the traction battery reset something.

Unfortunately mine doesnt give me the option to 'extract to'. Please see below picture

It looks like you have opened the application WinRAR. I usually select the folder using Windows Explorer and right click the file. However, if you want to proceed as you are doing select "Extract to specific folder". I suggest you create a folder on your desktop first so you know where it is.

I've downloaded the VMware workstation. But i get a different view of the opening menu. View attachment 118356

Not sure how to extract the file from WinRar to here?

Thanks

David
It looks like you have downloaded the latest VMware Workstation instead of the old VMware Player 17. I not familiar with this version of VMware but I suspect it is the similar to the Mac version (VMWare Fusion) I use. Once you have extract the Virtual machine files to a folder as I described. Open VMware Workstation and select File- Open and navigate to the folder containing the virtual machine.

Note Player 17 is no longer available from VMware. Their new owner Broadcom have made the more advanced version VMware Workstation free instead but if you want Player RedSector found a download link at Downloading VMware Player 17.0.2 Build 21581411 from FileHorse.com

I had another look at the headlight wiring diagram. The section below is the steering wheel control. I wonder if earth MC51 is loose. I have attached the location diagram for that earth. It is a bit difficult get to but there is a fair chance it is loose.

I found some more information on your headlights:
Wires 2801 and 2802 supply the high beam. These are protected by fuses F23 and F24 and controlled by relays R15 and R14.

Wires 2701 and 2702 supply the low beam and these are controlled by an electronic switch.

It would be worth seeing if you get the flicker when on high beam.

Thank you for the wiring diagram Ian.
I have used a second hand fuse box I am wondering what the configuration is that is needed?
Can you advise what is necessary? I will have a look on YouTube and on here to see if somebody has done it before.
The configuration settings for the BSM are fairly minor. For example another 508 forum member fitted a BSM from a Citroen. The only thing he needed to do was set the headlight washers to the not present setting. Most of the discussion was via PM but this the forum item https://www.peugeotforums.com/threads/immobiliser-fault-2012-1-6-ehdi.373307/page-2

You should be able to find in Diagbox a list of configuration settings for most electronic control units.

As an update. Cars up and running again. Diagbox rules.....

Now got a new issue with the headlights flickering and occasionally the left low beam going off for a second or 2.

Wondering if it's either the relay unit or maybe something to do with the alternator.....
Just a couple of comments:
(i) The relays that control the headlights are in main engine fuse box (BSM part of PSF1) which is a sealed unit. I have attached a wiring diagram. The fuse box has its own microprocessor. If both lights have a problem the fusebox may not be earthing properly. Unfortunately, the wring diagram doesn't show the fuse box earth.

Note: you can use a used fuse box on the 508 but there are some minor configuration setting which may need adjusting using diagbox.

(ii) Your car doesn't have a conventional alternator. The 12V battery that powers the headlights is charged by the traction battery. The car has a high voltage reversible alternator that charges the traction battery.

Good evening all.
Tried to follow all suggestions but no chance. I am not so great with computers but have bought a win 7 laptop 32bit windows as suggested. Can't now find the v7.62 diagbox program to download onto my pc, put on a memory stick and move to the old laptop.
Any suggestions as previous links dont want to open.

Thanks.

David
The only reason to use an old windows 32 bit machine is if you want to do a direct install. Most Lexia 3 come with a disc that contains Diagbox 7. You need to initially install 7.01 and apply each patch in turn. These patches are often included on the disc:
7.01 to 7.57
7.57 to 7.58
7.58 to 7.62
7.62 to 7.66
7.66 to 7.74
7.74 to 7.76
7.76 to 7.82
7.82 o 7.83

It is much easier to use a Windows 10 64 bit machine with VMware and a virtual machine image with Diagbox pre-installed.

The 508 engine fuse box (BSM) is unusual because it needs configuring. Your existing copy may be able to do this.

EDIT
I just checked Servicebox the parts list. It only show two fuse boxes. One is is ordered pre configured to match the VIN and the other has to be configured by the installer.

I found the fact that there wasn't a seperate fuse box for the Hybrid a bit surprising because the SEDRE lists two versions. However, while the fuse functions do change the actual fuse sizes are the same.

The offical spare part often has more fuses than the unit fitted to the car. It would be worth checking that your new fuse box has the same set of fuses as the original.

I doubt the BPGA is the cause of the problem it is a very simple device. The parts list gives this part number for the Hybrid's BPGA as 96 668 514 80 so I think your BPGA looks like the image below (ref FranceAuto.pl | Części do aut francuskich). The light grey part in the top left is the relay. There are two busbars. I have marked them in red and blue. The blue busbar connects directly to the battery and the red busbar is switched on by the relay. If the relay is faulty it can be bypassed by just putting in a shorting link.

I am not sure if the fault code P0215 you got is significant but if any relay is faulty it is more likely to be R1 in the BSM (main engine fuse box).

I suspect there may be an issue with block 1760 "battery HT+ battery status supervisor" (see traction motor wiring diagram attached). This has power all the time from the 12V battery and may have been draining it.

I don't think a different copy of Diagbox will help. All copies that cover your car should read all the fault codes. The issue is that on later versions PSA locked some tele-coding functions which you don't need at the moment.

I can't answer questions 2 and 3 at this stage but 2 may be significant some gearboxes do inhibit cranking. What is a game module?

Do you know if the car was using the rear electric motor to power the car before the breakdown? The reason I ask is the 12V battery is charged by the 200V traction battery. Early on in the the investigation (#8) you found that the voltage at the BPGA dropped from 13.5V to 12.3V and later after a week's storage it further dropped to 4V. I suspect there is parasitic drain on the 12V battery possibly via the charging system.

When the car is locked the relay in the BPGA should disconnect most of the load on the 12V battery so it should not have discharged during a week's storage. However, there is a continuous connection to the traction battery monitor and I wonder if this is draining the 12V battery.

Hadn't realised it was free, was desperately looking for a solution and had seen Diagbox being used on a similar year to mine so found it on eBay..... ÂŁ8 when should have been free...... never mind, if it gets me closer to sorting then compared to a ÂŁ200 call out charge from a mobile mechanic its cheap.

David
If you ever get a newer Peugeot you may find several things are locked in Diagbox. If that happens you need to buy tokens and download the official copy of Diagbox from Servicebox. This will give you access to the Peugeot server for a fixed period.

In case you don't know Servicebox provides all parts lists and wiring diagrams. Here is the link to servicebox Service Box You need to register as a technician or engineer to access it. Fortunately for your car you are unlikely to need to use it because there are free installable virtual machine copies of Servcebox around that cover cars up to late 2013.

Hi Ian,
The voltages across the fuses remains the same as the battery, 12.3v seems alot of loss after yesterday having 13.5v

Regards,

David
12.3v does sound a bit low. The next thing to check is the master relay in the main engine fuse box (PFS1). I have attached the injection wiring diagram. This shows that relay R1 turns on power to fuse 30 in the engine fuse box. Are you able to check the voltage at this fuse with the ignition ON. A lot of fuses have some metal contacts on the top of the fuse which is a convenient position to put the meter probes. I have attached some data on PFS1. F30 is 30A but I can't tell which one of three 30A fuses is F30 from the diagram.

Loads of info about Peugeot going online to reset the ECU after works done?? Any thoughts??
On later versions of Diagbox (after 7.58) Peugeot started making it necessary to connect to their server to do telecoding. However, given your car is from 2012 you should not need to connect to the server to update the new parts list. The only risk is you may need to install an older version of Diagbox (e.g. 7.57) see #13 of https://www.peugeotforums.com/threads/diagbox-9-vm-install-guide.360282/

I have attached the Sevicebox procedure for the changing the auxiliaries belt.

I have attached the details of the BPGA (fuse box on top of the battery). The following fuses are controlled by the the BPGA relay: 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 , 13, 16 and 17. Can you measure the voltage at one of these fuses relative to earth (or the battery negative terminal)? Note the blower control module is powered by fuse 10 of the BPGA.

Great news. SO what was the issue and what error do you think was the fatal one ?

Mine starts but dies off immediately. The mechanics (4th team of mechanics trying their luck on this car) say the issue is with the alternator.

I think it's some sort of error that got stored somewhere that prevents the car from starting.
If your car a hybrid similar to ManxViking's. If so I doubt it is the alternator. The alternator on the hybrid is a reversible alternator that charges the traction battery. The 12V service battery is charged by the traction battery not the alternator.

I have diagbox on my laptop but I stopped trying when I saw that I needed the dedicated lexia3 cable which I don't have at the moment (120€ is not cheap for a cable).
The Lexia 3 is a lot more than a simple cable. It is a complex vehicle to computer interface. The latest genuine unit costs 2400€ (see Peugeot / Citroen Diagnostics Interface (PSA EVOLUTION A.1281 Z)) The 120€ units are low cost Chinese clones. The full chipset clones they are very good.
