Hi all,

I have a Peugeot 206 LX 1124cc (52) 2002 and the details on the ECU are...

IAW 48P2.76

Chatellerault E 12V=

HW 16.552.004
HW 9643707380

SW 16.495.044
SW 9644925780

If I replace the ECU with another with the same numbers above will it work? or will it need to be programmed to work with my key and is this easy to do?

Kind Regards

Phil

If I buy a 2nd hand matching ECU how do I transfer the Data from my existing ECU to the replacement one so that it will be plug and play and work with my existing keys? Is this possible & What do I need to be able to do this?

Kind Regards

Thanks for your reply

Is it possible to read the data including the key code off my existing ECU and write it onto another identical ECU so I have a clone of my original without having to remove any chips or do any resoldering?

If do what programmer do you need to read/write the data?

The car starts and runs fine from cold and if you turn it off and turn it straight on again it starts ok, it is when it is cooling down from warm that it starts rough so to me sounds like a temperature or fuel regulation problem.

There are no error codes or dashboard lights

All the sensors have been replaced Has new Fuel Injectors, Oxygen Sensor etc Battery is ok.

Tried new crank angle sensor which didn't make a difference.

Just want to try another Identical ECU but seems that you can't just replace it because of the Key Code

No you cant swap your ecu on its own only as a full set but its unlikely your ecu is the real problem they are usually the last thing to break only time i have seen ecu being faulty is through a bad coil pack damaging the coil output transistors and this is mainly on 2 litres

you you can do this if you know what chip to remove you dont even need to read/write it as you can just swap the chip but as said why bother when you can swap ecu, bsi and keys and it will work

also you have not told us why you need to swap ecu anyway, ecu very rarely goes faulty its just would be mechanics thinking they know everything and blame the ecu!

If i don't here anything back, Where can i get a Peugeot Planet diagnostic software and LEXIA3 cable? is that all i need for a Peugeot?

I have seen Peugeot Planet Diagnostic Kits for around ÂŁ50 but i don't think i need all the additional cables it comes with.

If it is the ECU is it just a case of removing one chip off the existing ECU and putting onto another ECU with matching hardware software versions?

Does the chip contain the information required to work with existing car Keys?

The car does not have ABS Brakes or Air Conditioning.

The ÂŁ50 kits are all you need for a 206. Later cars may need "full chip" LEXIA which generally costs upwards of ÂŁ70. The cables are cheap as chips and I've never seen cheaper with less cables.

You will need a laptop with 32 bit Windows, preferably XP SP3.

If you only have a 64 bit laptop, you can install a 32 bit XP as a Virtual Machine using VMWare Player (free). I use that and have no problems.

Afaik, the chip contains the VIN and the the four digit keycode belonging to the vehicle. The BSI uses the VIN, the four digit keycode and the codes in the immobiliser chip and the key module (both in the key) to create a database which it holds in memory, which it uses to validate the key. That's probably an imprecise summary, but good enough to understand the ramifications.

That is why most people change the BSI, the ECU and the keys together as a matched set, just swapping the key blades over, but ensuring that the immobiliser chip (separate to the module in the key shell) is kept with the module.

Hi IanML

Thanks for your explanation.

It's my Dad's car, i don't know much about cars, my Dad does cars and i do computers :) i can sort out a laptop with XP no problem.

I don't know what BSI is?

My Dad has a U480 OBD 2 Diagnostic Tool Car Scanner but is not showing any error codes, but i need to get hold of a Peugeot Planet diagnostic kit and see what that tells me.

If it is the ECU I have been talking to an fleaBay seller who is selling the same ECU and if i send him my ECU in the post he says he can transfer the immo and flash data on this unit via removing the flash chip and making a backup file of the hex data before programming onto the donor flash and resoldering back onto the circuit board as there is no eeprom on this unit.

Does this make any sense?

Most generic code reader wont read the Peugeot ECU's. You need planet to read them properly. I would be very cautious about chip off stuff or Jtag. Both needs lots of specialist gear/knowledge and often when a chip is removed the balls of the feet on the chip are damaged meaning it can be put back on. Someone selling this "service" on ebay will probably not have the required equipment. I know this as part of my dissertation looked into this for recovering forensic data.

As its been said before I have never seen an ecu go bad. Its probably a 1 in a billion chance. The BSI is the built in system interface. On a 206 it controls various system which would normally be run by separate relays and control units. Its located under the steering wheel under the inspection panel next to the diagnostic port. Big back box with loads of fuses and cables on it. It controls:
direction indicator and hazard warning lights
windscreen and tailgate wiper motors
Immobiliser system
Anti theft system
Lights on/ignition buzzer
central locking, deadlocking and remote central locking receiver
Door open indicator
Automatic transmission audible warning system

To solve your issue it needs to be plugged into planet so the fault codes can be read and the live data can be seen. I have a generic reader which failed to see any faults, when planet was run it found several. Planet is your answer.

not meaning to disrespect what you have put about the removal of chips but i have done and still do remove and refit may chip with a normal soldering iron, others with a heat gun, and i have never damaged a chip and the worst i have done a rip a pad off a pcb but i managed to repair it with some wire, this is all part of my job
