Hi,

I’ve had my e2008 GT for 2 months now and have covered just under 1,200 miles, but an ‘Electric Traction System Fault’ warning/error message has started to be displayed when I start the car.

It won’t let you put the car into gear to drive it and then it won’t let you turn the car off for a while; once it does turn off there is a warning alarm that plays, as well as the error message still displaying. This has now happened to me 2 days in a row, so I haven’t been able to use the car.

I’ve read about this (or similar) occurring on the e208 but has anyone else had this issue with their e2008? (I know that they are basically the same car, but I wanted to raise the issue on this message board for the e2008). I’ve included links below to the relevant e208 threads, where some people have also described a loss of power while driving:

It looks like there is temporary fix, which will allow the car to start and be driven if you leave it for at least 15 minutes after first trying to start it, which worked for me when I tried it once:

After taking my e2008 to my local Peugeot garage I can confirm that there is a recall published for the vehicle in relation to the ‘Traction Battery Charger’.

After getting Peugeot Assist to recover my vehicle and take it to the Peugeot garage, they identified the issue and carried out the recall work before testing it for a couple of days (3 road tests after restarting all the systems). I was without the car for a week in total.

Having had the car back for a couple of day’s, I’m pleased to report that it looks like the issue has been resolved.

If you have an e2008 (or presumably an e208 as well) I’d recommend checking with Peugeot if the recall affects your vehicle, and if it is applicable booking your vehicle in as they should hopefully complete the work under the recall before you actually encounter the problem detailed above.

On a side note, and not something which I had done before anyway, the garage told me that you shouldn’t use an extension lead if you’re charging from a 3 pin plug charging lead as this can cause issues with the cars systems, so make sure you only use a 3 pin plug charging lead directly plugged into the plug socket if you use this method of charging.

Hi

Just wondering now it's identified for recall as ‘Traction Battery Charger’ issue....did you use CCS rapid charging at anytime?

I ask because I haven't had this fault occur (yet) and have only used either my 3pin 13amp "granny" at home or 7kw fast charging in town.

Regarding the ‘Traction Battery Charger’ recall, if it is a proper recall we shouldn't be waiting for the fault to happen PSA should be proactive and recall all EVs to have the work done.

Thanks for cross posting in both forums.

Regards

Hi,

I have used 50kWh rapid CCS charging at motorway services a few times, so not sure if that could’ve had anything to do with it.

I agree that they should be taking a proactive approach to it and contacting owners about the recall. But saying that, it sounds like it is a relatively new recall as this was the first that my local Peugeot dealership had heard of it (and they’re one of the biggest Peugeot dealerships in the UK). It’s probably worth a call to your local dealership to check if your car falls under the recall and to discuss it with them.

Hi, I have exactly same issue with my e 208. Been in the dealers twice now but fault keeps coming back. Glad you found a solution regarding the 12v battery but how did you manage to get your dealer to replace the battery? I have told my dealer that posts mention the battery as being responsible, but they do not listen to anything I say.

That's worrying! At what point did you get offered a courtesy car? I have found my dealership to be particularly poor in terms of providing any form of update (no contact at all form the service dept this week) and courtesy cars (every time they try and charge for them even though it's not your fault the car has broken down under warranty!). Will be interested to learn if you get any further updates (or a fix)

They were very good in keeping me informed the first week they had the car. When they realised it wasn't going to be a quick fix they offered the courtesy car, and since then i have done all of the chasing. I opened a case with Peugeot customer service today - they quote a maximum response time of 5 working days - so we'll see!

I have same problem with a Peugeot e-expert van. Apparently the V2V (sp?) converter needs replacing, which I think is probably the 400V to 12V DC converter for the lead acid 12V battery (which has seemed fine). Its a coded part and no one can tell me when it can come. Been off the road now for 3 weeks. Problem didn't stop the car but I didn't want to ignore it when it has a big red flashing and clanging warning saying "Repair Traction Battery"

Just picked up (2021) used e2008 yesterday evening from a reputable dealer. Message came up as I was driving home and traction icon appeared twice only for a few seconds then disappeared. Did also feel the steering pull to the left. Then driving home from work today along a very busy dual carriageway, took the slip road off carriageway when it suddenly came to an abrupt halt!!! Then bam, car behind smashed into the back of me. Pretty shaken up but thankfully fine, just dread to think what might have happened if this sudden loss of power had actually happened a few seconds earlier on the actual carriageway. Can't see me ever feeling confident behind the wheel of it again!!

I've had the same issue with my 2019 Peugeot E2008 (Electric Traction System Fault). 5 other cars within our peugeotclub had the same issue. Mine has been in the garage for 6 weeks now and they have no idea on what is the root cause. By the way, we all imported our cars from China to the Dominican Republic so there is no support from the local Peugeot dealership  nor have repair manual. We are now looking for support from other countries. In the meantime, the local garage recommended disassembling the high voltage battery which will cost a lot.

Hi folks, just came across this forum regarding the Electric Traction system fault. I've had my e2008 for only 3 weeks. Brand new and this error appeared today when I was parked. Drove it home. Called up and Peugeot sent out RAC to look it over. Was looked over, driven and it completely lost all power when the gent was driving it. It also now displays gearbox failure aswell and the car is sitting parked about a 10 minute walk from where I live. Absolutely unacceptable for a brand new car. After reading others comments about it happening while driving and coming to a halt etc... Not sure I have faith in this car anymore, quite scary. Also it's only 3 weeks old. Unbelievable.

Have a look at the Consumer Rights Act 1985 for information but basicalky it states you can reject the car within 6 months of buying it, if you believe it's faultly & ask for a full refund (depending on the deal you made if you traded in another car). If you bought your car through finance, technically they own it until you've paid it off so it will be them that you contact to reject it. I'm in the process of doing this now but my case is a bit more complicated as after car loosing power & came to a halt a third party vehicle hit the rear of my car. Finance company have been very helpful, dealer complete opposite. Also contact Peugeot Customer Service they will help with recovery of your car & can arrange for it to be taken to a dealer to be 'looked at'. Hope this helps & Good Luck.

Hi, I have e208 in Japan and searching this problem.
In Japan the number of stop is increasing recently and I'm afraid to stop.

In Europe does this clear problem what cause it?
In Japanese dealer they only said that related air-con (compressor or oil).
But reading this forum, it seems to have many complex reasons.

So is this;"Electric Traction Fault" solved problem in Europe?
Or does some knowing the precursors to stop?

Hi guys,

Update. You'll never believe this. My replacement e2008 has just came up with the exact same fault tonight when driving home from work. The car hasn't cut out yet but I won't be giving it the chance to. It's getting handed back and we are wiping out hands with Peugeot. There's obviously a known fault with these and some sort of recall needs to happen. Should have just wrnt with my instinct and went elsewhere after it happening the first time. 1st new car, 3 weeks old - error - breaks down completely and stops working. 2nd e2008 - fault appeared and I know the same thing is going to happen. Shocking stuff. Peugeot themselves actually don't even care. I actually had to send a Tweet to the CEO of my lease company to get my fault dealt with the first time.😡

Received e2008 (new) December 2020. This error message came up in October 2021. Turned off and on and was fine. Called road assistance and my lease company just in case. They both said, if error is no longer showing no need to call it in.

All was fine until July this year (2022). Came up twice in 3 days. Brought in to dealer yesterday. They called me today saying it needs a new part from main factory. They then said that a recent customer had exactly the same issue and it was a 3 week wait time. I will find out Tuesday for mine! So 4 days minimum without a car.

Mileage 6300 miles. Usually charge on 7kw at work. I have used superfast chargers on 3 occasions in 18 months. No issues at the time.

Report: Traction fault code U2FFF recorded, requires replacement OBC DC/DC unit.

Having read this thread now I feel worried. Just on our way home from 2.5 weeks hols, clocking up a lot of miles without a hitch we stopped at a CCS rapid charge to top up to get us home. We returned to the car to be welcomed by the the Electric System Traction Fault warning. It allowed me to move out of the charging bay and into another space (Morrisons Shrewsbury). Now awaiting RAC and it seems this isn't going to be straightforward! Not a great start to Peugeot ownership, picked it up as a brand new car and it was still set in storage mode so load of functionality wasn't available and it took a week to resolve and now this. Oh dear.....

Update.
RAC arrived within the hour and the warning messaged had cleared itself. He ran diagnostics and couldn't find anything. He was sure he had responded to another EV a few weeks earlier with same fault warning that had used the same charger.

Anyway we had a drive round and everything seemed fine so he left us to it. And we managed the 80 miles home without issue, and it's been fine since.

Will be getting it checked over at a Peugeot dealer though.

5 WEEKS to the day I got my car back!!! Broker (Drive Electric who were great) chased on my behalf. Robins & Day Chiswick NEVER called me with an update throughout, and on week 5 they answered the phone to say "part came in recently, let me check status. Oh the car is ready for collection"

Peugeot customer care manager emailed last week Wednesday to say she couldn't get through to Chiswick and would try EVERY day for an answer. 8 working days passed and they never contacted me again!

Lease company have at least compensated me (eventually).

Peugeot and Robins & Day Chiswick are a joke. WILL NOT GET ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM THEM! Lease ends December 2023. Fingers crossed!

I know that this has all been asked a long time ago, but did your faults ever get resolved. We have our E2008 in the garage at the moment. It has been in there since March 2023 and it has has every bit of software updated, it has had a new BSI and they can't find what the fault is. We get 3 maybe 4 days back from the dealer and all the errors are back again. At the moment it is covered by warranty, but that runs out on the 25th and we are concerned we will get the car back again for it to go wrong and then be at our cost. We have even looked today an selling the car and changing it for a Petrol. Very few places will buy it (not because of the fault) but because it is an electric and we have potentially lost £20k from its purchase price in March 2022 to now. Any advice of experience would be most welcome.

3 months ago I had the "Electric traction system fault: stop vehicle, see onboard documents" error message (in red) with the "P2C85 01" ("EV battery voltage external isolation fault") DTC - Diagnostic Trouble Code. They replaced the high voltage cable 98 329 229 80 and the car seems fine.
