If i use supermarket fuels in my 307 i loose power and car gets very sluggish. Never had it flash warnings up so it may have just be coincidence this happened after filling up. Does your 407 have DPF?

 

Yes it does have a DPF (unfortunately)

 

I generally only ever use Tesco fuel and never have a problem with it. The only supermarket fuel I've used that I try to avoid is Sainsbury or Morrisons - not nbecause they cause any running problems - just because in my cars both these fuels return very poor MPG figures. It could well be your car doesn't like that particular fuel but it could be like pr1vatepiles said - coincidental.

 

So I read about it a million times in the lead up to buying the car and its finally happened to me (2006 407 hid sport - 70k on the clock). I've got a loss of power, it feels like there is no turbo and i'm also unable to use the cruise/speed limiter as i get speed system faulty.

So there are a few circumstances leading to this:

* It came up when i was admittedly thrashing the car to get home as i was running massively late from work and my wife needed to leave but couldn't leave the kids on their own. Never really thrashed it like i was as its generally cruising on the motorway or slow town traffic

* The diesel in the tank is Tescos fuel. I've not used Tesco fuel in the car since i bought it in December, i've always stuck to Esso but i was stuck in the middle of nowhere and lo and behold the only petrol station happened to be a tesco one. Thought nothing of it and just put a whole tank in. Reading that lots of people have issues with supermarket fuels with them.

No access to planet and won't be able to get to anyone for at least the next week or so, i'm stuck doing 12 hour days at work.

So any ideas on anything I can do or check (take into account i am a complete novice) ?

your best be is get it plugged in as it could be lots of things and you could end up spending lost on parts not required

 

Yeah I will get definitely get it onto planet as soon as i can but its not going to be for another week at least.

Been having a read about and for similar issues i've seen the following 2 recommendations:

Driving for 10-20 miles in 4th gear to try and force a regeneration of the DPF ?

Trying some Wynnes DPF cleaner (Halfords | Wynn's Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner 325ml)

Do you think either of these are worth trying ?

 

Intresting bit of input I must add for you guys after reading this post. I fill up at ASDA, and tend to do so during the middle of the night, around the time the tanker turns up. Was chatting to one of the drivers, and he informed me that most of the supermarkets fuel is actually ESSO, and it comes from the same storage tanks. Was surprized with what he said, and tbh he had no reason lie. My only experience with fuel problems was a 406 1.6 hdi, which was a works pool car. It was owned by a coach company, and they filled it up with cheap fuel, from the companys own storage tanks. The DPF went on it, because A) they let the dpf fluid run low, and B) the cheap fuel had a higher water content, often associated where storage tanks run low all the time (so im told). Does the 406 have a water bleed off the fuel filter, like the old HDI engines??.

 

Well here goes - i've not got a clue what most of these mean or how easy cheap they are to replace (via a mechanic):

P0215 - Injection system supply relay
P0243 - Turbo pressure regulation solenoid
P0245 - Turbo pressure regulation solenoid
P2562 - Turbo position repeat signal
P1351 - Preheating relay circuit
P2141 - EGR valve

P1607 - Vehicle speed limitation
P1671 - Cruise Control

I would reset them and then drive for a bit and read again as some might be old codes but did you use planet to read them

 

You need to look at the DPF regen settings and see if it is regenerating itself the live data portion of planet/diagbox will give you real time readings of various things including fuel cap sensor etc.

There is lots to check and if done logically you will get to bottom of it clear faults and drive it see what comes back.

 

Took it out for a drive - tried to force regen but no joy

System is saying 6.7g of soot in there at the minute - not sure if thats a lot ?

 

It should also tell you how many miles since regen and how much fluid is left it will usually regen every 300 miles or so.

It may be doing regens fine

Do you rarely rev it high as it may be a problem that has been lurking for a while and the harder driving has shown it up.

 

No i wouldn't say i rarely rev it high - it tends to be around town driving during the week and a couple of hours (x 2 for the return) blasts at the weekend to get too and from football.

Am i right in thinking that one issue is likely to be causing the rest of these ?

I'll get the reading from the last regen etc when i am back on Sunday

Took it to a Peugeot "specialist" today and gave him the codes.

He looked it all up in his system and said he had something pretty much identical last week and suggested that it was the "turbo pressure valve" but its a bit of a "shi**er of a job.

He said that its a case of taking a hell of a lot of things apart, replacing the valve which is the easy part and then shimming the part so that it all lines up as before ?

Quoted approx £250 for the labour + £150 for the kit that he would need to do it and thats Ex Vat - So £480 in total !!

Does this sound sensible ?
