407 2.0 HDI Fuel Injector problem

Good afternoon all,

Yesterday, while returning from work, I broke down on the duel carriage way with no warning. Following a 7 hour wait for recovery, the attending mechanic diagnosed my Pug with a bad number 4 fuel injector.

Today, I attempted to resolve this, however after searching for the part online, I have been unsuccessful at finding the part. I have called Euro Car Parts, however they informed me that they have no parts in the company.

I managed to find plenty of fuel injectors that state that they fit my vehicle, however none of them show the same part number (9660334880).

Does anyone have any ideas? Did they change the part number?

I'm really struggling here and I'm desperate to get the car back on the road.

That's fantastic news. And I also assume that it wouldn't need recoding?
The short answer is yes, they need encoding. See if this is helpful. Maybe there is someone nearby with Lexia able to help, or a mechanic with the right diagnostic equipment can do this for you or you can buy Lexia and with a laptop do it yourself.

Sorry to be a pain again, but do you think the following will work? I have found a tool to dobthe recoding.

Just as a point of interest, I have had the usual myriad of problems with my 5008,I bought a bit of kit from eBay …..an OBD reader and service /diagnostic bit of kit called iCARsoft model FR v30 specifically designed for Peugeot/Citroen/Renault/Dacia….it was about £100 and will do virtually everything that Lexia can bar reset the additive counter. All the usual irritating stuff like forcing a regeneration ,encoding injectors ,steering angle,relearn throttle position ,electric brake reset , battery replacement etc, needless to say it has totally changed my attitude toward driving the car . The said kit now lies permanently in the glovebox….! !
I feel the cost of the injector from Amazon is a bit pricey! A brand new Siemens one, which I bought locally from a diesel outlet cost me £159…. best of luck they are sometimes a real arsed ache to get out!

no...dont swap them about....take out no4 and hae it tested...resistance may be ok but it might be stuck open,,,,i would stll have a second opinion...whare abouts are you?

Hi, I had the same problem while going to peak District. It broken down with injector problem. If the injector still sprays, please put them back, clear the fault, get Shell v-power fuel, put 4x250ml of carlube injector cleaner from Halfords. Turn on the engine, keep it running on neutral for 5 to 6 hours. Go for a drive, but keep the diagnostic tool (topdon if possible) if in case fault comes back. It may come back one or two times specially in very hot day drive. I have done this to avoid ÂŁ1500 of costs to replace all 4. The car is running now nearly no fault for 6 months. If it works for you, please always use shell v power fuel and use a carlube injector cleaner 250ml every 5 tank (although I use 250ml every 3 tanks, keeps my French girl really happy!!!

Back to the same old problems!!

Today, having travelled almost 200 miles since Friday, I encountered the same problem once again. I had a sudden loss of power, rough idle and engine management light.

Somewhat lucky, I had an OBD2 scanner in the car and I managed to delete the fault code. This seemed to resolve the issue, however about 2 miles later, the issue arose again.

I called the RAC, however their estimated recovery time was 4 hours and as I was only a couple of miles from home, I decided to delete the fault code again. Again, this seemed to work however just as I was pulling onto my drive, it happened yet again.

My only question is, does this signify that I do indeed have a faulty injector, or not?

Your injector is jammed by low quality fuel (highest possibility). As the car still running, just check my previous reply how to fix it. I hope you won't regret.

HI ..as above...I wish every 'injector' issue was rectified with injector cleaner..sadly..not the case..I'm all in favour of tryng the 'easy' fix route ..but in this case a thourough diagnosis is needed...

Okay, so this evening I swapped out the fuel injector.

Pretty straightforward job in all honesty, bit fiddly getting the fuel return clip back in, but otherwise it seemed to go okay.

As I said before, when I did my resistance measurement last week, everything seemed to be okay. Upon removing the offending injector however, I have noticed a crack on the body of the injector.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Could this be the culprit? I won't know for sure if the issue is resolved until I am able to take the car for a proper drive.
