Hi - is anyone aware of a fault with the timing chain? I have a 2018 plate 3008 1.5 hdi with 65K miles on the clock. My timing chain has broken and killed my engine to the extent that the garage a suggesting a new engine due to the extent of the damage. I have only owned the car 11 months. The car has a warranty on it and I'm praying it covers the repairs, but due to the age of the car, I'm curious as to whether there is a manufacturing fault?
One thing I don't understand, though, is that the article to which you linked says "All vehicles manufactured since December 31, 2019 may be affected by this manufacturing defect", and that this problem "affects Euro 6.3 (or Euro 6.D) blocks produced since December 31, 2019". But you have a 2018-registered car.

I have a 22 3008 1.5hdi which is running fine but I am concerned over the 6mm v 7mm timing chain issue. Recently a forum member stated that by checking the 9 digit number on the valve head, close to the oil filler, should show which chain is fitted. My problem is that the number on mine is slightly different from the 2 in the posting.
It is : 9809695280 with a second 7 digit no. 03 RNZ 22 underneath.
Can anyone shed any light as to whether this number relates to chain size? Thanks.

Addendum : 10 digit number, not 9!

Sent photo of engine bay, the number is about 8cm to the right of oil dip stick on (I think) the turbo charger. Number might not have any relevance to my query, but cannot see another, even after popping of the snap fasten cover over the cylinder head.

I have found the number. It is vertical orientation, close to the oil stick.

There is one more number (extremely similar) printed on the top pf this big aluminum cover. They are not matching 100%.

My numbers are:

Following your reply I lifted the bonnet again & found the vertical stamped number, which is the same as yours ending 5080. Thanks anyway or y

Hi there I have a 11/2018 208 1.5 hdi 102ps with 90.000 km....yesterday when I started the car in the morning was making a strange sound probably from the chain....but eventually go away after 5 seconds .. Today during cold start it did not make the sound again
I should be worried about the chain ? . Or is it something else 🤔
Does anyone knows if the new 8mm chain and tensioner fits older models ( my car it's a 2018 model and obviously had the 7mm chain ) but no recall since it's pre 2019 !
Is replacing the chain generally advised ?
My car is less than 5 years but out of warranty because I passed 60.000 km

How that strange noise sounds like?

Is it higher pitch, like metal hitting something?
I came across this page through a buddy (via Google) and thought I would share dash cam video of the moment my DV5 cam chain snapped to answer your question on the noise. It was a 20 month old Vauxhall Combo and Vauxhall effectively said it was uneconomic to repair and therefore written off. It was out of warranty (unlike Peugeot unlimited mileage 2 year warranties, Vauxhall cap their warranties at 60k miles) and Vauxhall offered no goodwill assistance at all towards the repairs.
You can hear the moment the cam chain snapped at 38 seconds. I instantly lost all drive and coast to a standstill.
I've only just uploaded the video to YouTube, so it might be an hour or so before the higher quality versions are processed and available.

Hi - do you have any notification re the fault you can share?
Yes, there is a known fault with the chain with 1.5HDI. You should complain to Peugeot, there is a revised and thicker chain.

OK so I have a major update here - I found this article: Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel. 1.5 (DV5) Diesel Breakdown Problem which when checking the parts on my car matches the problem - But if the reference number was 98 126 472 80 and the housing was flat, the engine still had the old, weaker 7 mm chain.
I'm going after Peugeot for this as the parts for repair are on a backlog and will take 4-5 months and the cost will be immense, so I'm quoted ÂŁ6300 for a new engine

The 8mm thicker chain has stretched in the words of the dealer !! Still a problem for Peugeot

Hi,
I heard from some sources that new timing chain has been developed, 9 mm or 10 mm, but I am not sure about this.
Could anybody confirm is that true or its just some rumors?
Thank you.
Miki

Does anybody know if the 1.5 HDi uses the rocker arms which snap like the 2.0 / 1.6 HDi does? The 1.5 is a derivitive of the 1.6. If so, it could mean the engine can be saved with relatively little cost as new rocker arms, timing chain kit, timing belt kit and maybe camshafts if the lobes have rotated will get the engine running perfectly.
Good evening did you get any info on your question, I’ve fixed many 8v’s and now have a twin cam in with broken chain. It snapped at low revs and all valves are sitting at same level.
No bent rockers etc. wondered if a safe ish engine

My wife’s 3008 1.5 Blue HdI engine capitulated in February. 69 plate and 66,000 miles on the clock, Peugeot very aware of the issue but are only offering us 50% goodwill towards a full engine repair of £9k. Peugeot customer care less than helpful in assisting and just keep stating 50% is based on an “incomplete service history” on account of having some services done at local garages and not main dealerships. I’m refusing to back down and will fight them on this as they know the issue exists but are are not giving owners the opportunity to get ahead of the problem and save themselves £1000’s of damage repair. The UK Motor Omsbudsman have accepted our case but could be up to 6 months before the case is looked at, Anyone else had dealings with Peugeot customer care that would be willing to share/combine/discuss?

Hi my chain has gone on 69 plate on 60000 on clock. How did you get on with Peugeot. I am having car stripped on Friday to see extent of damage. Did they offer you 50% or did you have to fight for it
