You should use boroscope to see the inner belt side. That is were it will mostly crumble.
Regarding dates : PSA refuse to expose but it is believed that 2018 models have the newer belt version.

I had the same problem last week, just 10 days before my 5year service appointment. Had to be towed to a local car shop which cleaned the engine. 500euros there. Talked to peugeot about what happend, and they said timing belt was not to be changed before 10 year service. After the 5 year service today, they had changed their mind, and I got a new paper with service intervals where they said timing belt was to be changed at 5year service. This resulting that they sat me up for another service, and they want 1800euros for changing timing belt. In addition 600euros for the 5 year service(change the oil for second time in 10 days) they have just done!!!!! What a company!! Im expecting them to fix some compensation for this.
Cred to Peugeot that now say they will do the repair for free..

They don’t want to expose dates because no one can be sure, they have updated belt which will only prolong the life, it’s been mentioned that the oil properties and the belt do not mix, cars manufactured between 2014/15 will be more at risk until they have had the belt replaced but inevitably this will keep happening it is just no prolonged, these engines will not make old bones if they are not fully serviced 6 monthly and belts changed every 3-4 years, it will also be worth mentioning that if you are experiencing this issue and you are having the belt replaced by and independent garage or having a go yourself then purchase the belt from parts counter at Peugeot as component shops will knock out their old stock (belts they had before this issue became apparent to Peugeot) first before the updated belt these places have no knowledge of mechanics whatsoever.

It wont make any difference where you buy the belt as parts places WONT have a huge stock of belts yet anyway the engines are still too new i would not be paying peugeot twice or 3 times the price for essentially the same belt the belts are made by external suppliers like gates continental etc who also make the original peugeot belts i would be interested in hearing from 1 of the belt manufacturers as to whether there is a newer better belt as i doubt there is.

That would put an end to all the speculation wouldn’t it :D to be fair I am only passing on what the tech has said at my local Peugeot centre, could be bull but you would hope they have at least tried to address it with one of the belt manufacturers because if not the future of this engine is bleak.

That's awful customer experience.
Mainly because they lie all the way to salvation.
Changing the belt costs less than 500€. Not 1800.
the belt kit cost here in shop

how much it will cost labor ?

Hi guys. I recently purchased a 308 gt line 1.2 130bhp. After reading this post I figured I better check mine. The car has currently done 22,000 miles. Does this belt look ok? I know it's not a great pic but you can just about see it to the right of the pic. Thanks.

i have the smooth belt, and interval is written 6y/100 000km (belt alone), it should be good.
funny part is the 200kkm interval for the other stuff, tensioner ... i dont get it, because belt kits vs belt alone price diff not huge.. :) who to blame?
since i am searching info about this topic for long time, i was finally able to find interesting bits.
I have already seen a case here where an owner of a 208 1.2 82hp shows up in a Peugeot garage in November 2018 with an oil pressure warning light. Its 208 of 2014 then has 51,000km. It is equipped with a problem belt (9807527380) which is just starting to streak but still with a correct external appearance. They changed the oil pump, the strainer, the oil pump chain and its sprocket. Removing the oil pump gear requires removing the timing belt.
Well, they didn't even put a strap 9800239680 (which would have cost them a small sum), they gave him his old strap. PSA participated 75%.

We really walk on our heads sometimes with PSA.
If PSA was clean, they would at least have had to recall all the vehicles fitted with the 9807527380, mount a more resistant 9800239680 and give the new preco at 100,000 / 6 years.

translated here :)

as we already spoke, there are 2 belt flavors, "jeans like" & "smooth".
the jeans, seems has bad material , possibly eaten away by oil (or gas in oil).

smooth belt has new base material. even when cracked at 100kkm or more, it does not release particles. (many people say that)

If the belt is purchased directly from Dayco, the print may be blue, the dayco refs are 941128 for the 9800239680 (yellow)(y) and 941090 for the 9807527380 (white) (n).

we should report which type of belt the engine had when problems started, just to be sure that smooth belt is really problem free.

puretech compared to ecoboost or others, seems have positive reviews about construction or longevity. this belt issue did create black cloud above it..
i understand this situation as problem solved, i hope new belt design will not die on anybody. peace.

during idle, look through oil filler hole. mine is smooth only with dark yellow signs. almost brown.
i wanted to read it completely, but is impossible to stop engine at exact point (and the small opening..)

few people had done 120-150kkm on this new belt with cracks; engine was still ok.
i think new 100kkm/6y interval should be bulletproof.
quite difference, when old belt is making fatal problems before 60-80kkm :poop:

approx march 2017 when engines got new belt and service plan.
me thinks, i want to see new belt, before they put it in âť—
(even today the old type *380 can be bought ...??)
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
edit: new belt is 99% bulletproof, i keep searching on forums
there are some rare cases, so far approx 1H/2017.

keep your eye on 100kkm/6y belt interval; and stop car asap when error messages/weird engine behavior (or sounds). this should minimize damage risk.
low oil pressure at idle is giveaway, it may "fix" self in higher rpm.
turbo versions may lose braking capacity(hard pedal), when oil circuit is full with debris. (at this point engine can be oil starved and have bigger problems too)

Really good info there, will put a bit of rest to the speculation around weather there is an improved belt or not, now just to see weather they last the recommended interval time. Good work.

on french forum he said 120-170kkm new belt had cracks, but no debris.
i like to hear from anybody with mid2017 or younger, if they get oil pressure/engine warnings, above 40-100kkm.
if none, then i assume no debris in the oil pan from new type belt.

(there is one way to know for sure; remove and look into the oil pan & suction basket.)
in about 4 years, i need to do belt service. i will ask to look into pan if possible. this extra step is maybe not cheap..

one remark: i always brought own oil, motul b712296 (of course according to manual). because i do not believe in total "eco-oily water".
own oil was not a problem until now, it does not voids warranty.
but now they added a sentence that i take responsibility, if "wrong" oil damages engine. :D the what? genuine canister, no fake.
maybe this is the proof, that the old belt scandal got huge. probably psa is dealing globally (panic) with many cases of old belt debris engine damage.

i travelled with p301 (facelift.. 2017 or younger) taxi, they bought at same time several cars and converted to lpg.
driver said each one has different problems, clutch, sensors, electrics; but nothing about engine.
it got >220kkm on the clock (that means two belt changes) :) he said 200-500km daily..
