Quick note about FAP Peugeot diagnostic phone app off Amazon

I'm relatively new here and have been coming for some DPF help with my stepfather's wheelchair-access 2013 Peugeot Partner Tepee.

During correspondence on the forum I was told about the FAP Android phone app, available for about £9 from Amazon UK, that would 'talk' to my stepfather's Peugeot via an OBD2 Bluetooth ELM 327 device, that I'd not long-ago bought for my own non-Peugeot car.

I had some difficulty finding out how to install this FAP app onto an Android phone, which I will not go into detail about here, but the crucial element was (which I did not know at first) is that you already have to have a thing called the Amazon Appstore For Android installed on the same phone. And you have to keep it on, and be signed in, for the FAP app to run.

And here is the rub - Amazon are planning to discontinue the Amazon Appstore For Android. When I found out how to do the app install, a couple of weeks ago (as I write) the discontinuation date was 25th March 2025. On the 'Vans' forum, I've just written out the process for installing Amazon Appstore For Android, and installing the FAP app, for someone who was struggling to do it. And during the run-through, I discovered Amazon has put back their Appstore discontinuation date, at this time, to 20th August 2025.

Who can say if they'll put discontinuation back further at a later date? However I thought it was worth highlighting the fact that, while the FAP app has proved useful (on older Peugeots only, I understand, since it hasn't been updated since 2020) it will only work, to my knowledge, in conjunction with the Amazon Appstore App, which is tricky to find and install on a phone if you've not already got it, and while Amazon will happily take £9 off you, when you click 'Purchase Now', for the FAP app, without the Appstore you will get no download - and if you HAVE the Appstore, once the Appstore is discontinued, in all likelihood, FAP will no longer work, even if it is on your phone. And Amazon would still let you buy it, even if it was going to be useless by tomorrow...

According to the experiences of others, Amazon does not support the FAP license they sell. When apllication definitely no longer works for you, switch to FAP lite from another company.
It's free.

I got FAPlite before I found out how to download and install the full paid-for version off Amazon. I found it on the Softronic website, and it downloaded the installation folder onto the Android phone where it remains, and if I wanted I could transfer the installation folder between other devices. The trouble is, FAPlite is rather limited, and seems mostly intended as a free trial version, to see if it works before spending the cash on the full version. I needed an indication of the soot levels in the car's particulate filter, among other things, and FAPlite cannot provide that.

I wouldn’t say it will be useless as initially thought. Done sone testing of the Fap app and the use of the Fap app lite version. Bad news is yes you won’t be able to sign in on the Amazon App Store when requested by the Fap app - which means you won’t be able to clear error codes as the Amazon sign in appears preventing you from clearing codes.
Good news however is
1. The fap lite version still clears codes inc the dpf regen warning - though that app gives you info like additive level and Fap life but doesn’t give you the other info like soot weight and regen info (avg last 10 and last regen etc)
2. I’ve tested the FAP app with no network connection to see what’s will
happen when the App Store is removed. When you launch the Fap app the you will see the Amazon warning asking you to sign in - this appears about 5-10 seconds after the app has opened and blocks some of the Fap app display but not all the display.
If you adjust the layout settings to display the bare minimum when the Amazon warning pops up you can still see the important live info such as soot weight. Just don’t click Close on the warning until you need to.
3. The other plus is the app still functions beneath this Amazon App Store sign in so you can still monitor dpf regeneration as it appears at the top (albeit with some reduced screen brightness).
4. If data is hidden beneath the Amazon App Store sign in Just close the Fap app, reopen it and you have 5-10 seconds to capture that data before the Amazon App Store

it not ideal but it’s a workaround

Just an update on how to circumvent the FAP app Amazon App Store sign in.

i use the app on a Lenovo tablet with the network disabled.

I left the warning appear for 30 minutes (that period might be a coincidence) then closed it down and reopened the fap app for another 6-7 times. On some attempts the Amazon sign in pop appeared before the FAP app could connect to the dongle but on attempt 7 the app opened and I’ve not had the sign in warning appear since.

If this is work around then at least it means I can keep using the FAP app despite what Amazon does with its App Store on Android devices.
