I'm thinking of buying the Planet software and have a Laptop to run it on, plus hard disk to install Windows XP..........

BUT........... Windows XP is out of support and very vulnerable to attack.

Running a VM (virtual machine) on Windows 7 has been discussed here but I'm not sure that this makes it any the less vulnerable as it will still try to connect to the Internet to get Planet updates, authenticate/validate etc.

Is Planet no longer supported by Peugeot, and only of use for older cars like mine (2002 206) ?

When running on a VM, the internet interface can be disabled in the Virtual OS, so the OS and disk are invulnerable. Even if you don't do that, any interference from outside would be confined to the VM, which is easily re-installed. There is no need for XP to be updated to run PP2000.

I strongly recommend the VM route - restarting is so much quicker than dual boot, etc.

If you want to be able to cater for Citroens (and newer Peugeots, I understand) with Diagbox, you can install a second VM under the same copy of (say) VMWare Player, and the two will be unaware of each other (only one will run at a time - the other should be suspended), so there will be no installation issues.

If you are using it for planet you need to switch off wifi or it will often try to update planet and disable it. No internet no issue with attack.

As above you can use VM or diagbox V6 works with old /b interface on win 7 and 10 32 bit

PS after spending 30 hours fixing a friends server that was attacked with ransomware (all files encrypted and ÂŁ300 for decrypt key) i would recommend everyone installing cryptoprevent free version
