I think the MAP sensor is under the inlet manifold, I can barely get my fingers under it, never mind work on it.

If you done a job like this before, how did you manage it without removing half the engine.

 

as far as I know , mine doesn't have a MAP sensor

I would say that yours hasn't got a map sensor..

 

You know, I think you are right. I can't find anything that looks remotely like a MAP sensor on mine.

I thought it might be on the end of the grey plug you can see in the photo, I am not sure what that is for.

 

Thats a single point system doubt they had map sensors i honestly cannot remember it might actually be better telling us what you are trying to cure rather than asking about what sensor does what etc

 

One problem is, when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal, the revs stay high. I think this might be a crankshaft sensor fault.

The other problem is, it was rough idling and it used to stall now and again first thing in the morning, probably due to cold weather, then it would start OK for the rest of the day, once it was warmed up.

To solve the starting / stalling problem, I changed the Idle air control or Stepper motor as some people call it, and it made no difference.

I checked the Coolant temp sensor with a multimeter, that was OK.

Then I changed the spark plugs and checked the HT leads. That improved the running, it feels like it starts a bit easier now, the rev counter goes above and holds at over 1000 RPM when starting from cold, it never used to do that.

Then I tried to find the MAP sensor. :lol:

I think the next few jobs I will do is, have a look at the Crankshaft position sensor. Change the air filter. Change the fuel filter.

Have a go at removing the throttle body for a spot of cleaning. Do I need to get a new seal or gasket before doing this? if anyone has the part number, please let me know.

If I have missed any sensors to check, please let me know. Of course there is the throttle position sensor to look at, probably do that when I dismantle the air filter housing to get at the throttle body.

I have identified the thingy, I think it is called a Bosch Monopoint Injector or injection unit.

 

I would say your problem is with the idle control valve or a dirty throttle body. I would initialy take the air intake trunking off and spray carb cleaner down the intake while at fast idle cleaning the intake and around the throttle plates.

 

Do you mean the Idle air control? I just put a new IAC on, so it can't be that. I agree the throttle body needs looking at, just to rule it out.
