ESP light came on and engine died

307SW 1.6 HDi 110.

Set off from home, got about 50 yards, ESP light came on and engine died. Managed to restart once, get another 5 yards and same happened. Engine now will crank but not start. ESP light on all time. No other lights.

Connected to Diagtool - unable to read ECU came back - also not able to connect via normal code reader either where I have been able to in the past. I was able to communicate with ECU in the past when I first installed diagbox last week.

Any suggestions?

Currently:

P0422 - Regeneration not complete
P1351 - Preheating relay circuit - Relay supplied but plugs never supplied
P1442 - Additive system - Addition of additive impossible or incorrect additive level sensor
P1445 - Max threshold of additive in PAF reached
P1639 - Injection system relay circuit (Power stage) - open circuit.

I did have problems with MAF and Turbo pressure, but have cleared those now. Other faults come and go.

We bought it in August last year and it's done about 6k km since then. I can see from the PP2000 history that it had had a lot of things done to it prior to it being sold. We were told it had some work done prior to being sold - but not what it was. I am beginning to suspect the DPF has been removed.

Now I have managed to get my PP2000 working - I have been able to perform a global test on my 307.

I have 5 faults on the engine ECU - so I have managed to clear 4 and gain some new ones.

However, it says in the global test phase of the ABS/ESP ECU that "PP2000 Unknown reference - ECU being referenced." and that there is a "presence of faults". When I do a fault check on the ECU - it can find none.

So I guess I either have a faulty wire, or a faulty ESP ECU. At least the car is allowing me to run the engine now, so I can use the car....

An update:

Thanks for the suggestions. I disconnected all the connectors to the engine fuse box, ECU and ABS/ESP ECU and cleaned them with contact cleaner. I also replaced all the fuses in the fusebox - I make classic wiring looms so I have a good stock - and then reconnected everything up again.

Reconnected the battery and the ESP light went out and the car started.

Managed to connect a code reader and I have now only 5 error codes rather than the usual 6 or 7.

I think this car is always going to be problematic electrically. I also discovered a spliced wire going into the fuse box, so someone has been tinkering with it before.

Cheers for the suggestions, especially @JJJ DA for his offline help - moltes grĂ cies.

No You should be able to talk to both ABS/ESP and Engine ECU. Double check maxi fuses tucked down the front of the fuse box.

I would check Engine ECU, ABS Unit and Multiplug & Fusebox electrical connections for water ingress/corrosion.

Then double check harness in and around the battery for broken wires where they may have been disturbed by battery removal

Thanks, will check those in the morning. The car is garaged, so I don't think water ingress will be a problem. I did check the harness when I cleaned the earth points - I had to replace a chaffed earth wire that was coming out of the loom to the earth point behind the battery tray - that I believe was the OBD connector earth. Maybe that's become uncrimped.
