Electric parking break stuck

My partner has left her car for about a week without starting. The car is a 308 2016.
We have just started it now, and as we tried to pull off, the electric parking break is not releasing.
We have tried driving off to release(automatic release), but this does not work.
We have also tried pressing the brake and manually release the parking brake.
The parking brake does not release for either of these methods. It shows on the dashboard that the parking brake is released(the parking brake light comes off), but the brake is not actually released.

Any ideas why this is, and how to resolve this?
Thanks in advance.

Do you hear the motors activating after you press the parking brake release switch?
If so then it could be as simple as the pads have slightly stuck to the discs - with the parking brake released a more forceful pull away in forwards, then in reverse & then in forwards should unstick them - certainly worth a try before diagnosing further. Certainly over here we've had plenty of rain & cold weather over the past week which can do that.

I agree if you can hear the motors release then the brake is not actually on its just the pads stuck to disc just rock car back and forward on the clutch a few times till it breaks free and dont put the handbrake on if parking for long periods especially if outside as condensation is what makes them stick

Yes it is possible to park with the hb off - from memory you switch off engine so hb is activated, then switch on ignition, release hb via console switch and footbrake and then switch off ignition - it gives audible warning until key is removed or while door is open - obviously make sure the car is then in gear, chocked etc.
If this is happening regularly then maybe good to get the rear brakes checked to ensure all is as it should be.

Either call out recovery to deal with it OR carefully unbolt each handbrake motor from the back of the rear brake calipers.

NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is switched off, in gear / park & you chock the wheels before unbolting the caliper motors.

Hi all again I'm posting now to help anyone else.
I did remove the motors but then I had to wind back the automatic brakes manually with a Torx bit. Then I replaced the motors with out connecting the cables. Now I can move the car and drive to the garage.
Also while the motors were off I powered each one with 12v to test both were fine and functional.
