Another guide. This time downloading and installing the virtual (VM) version of Diagbox 9

This is a totally free version that doesn't need any manual installing or activating.

Tested on an i3 laptop with 8Gb RAM and Windows 10 64 bit.

ONE ITEM TO NOTE: Diagbox 9 doesn't work on some older cables (2011-2013). Run the PSA checker tool and it may give you a build date.

Incidentally if I bought a new windows 10 professional 32/64bit with key software could I then load this new software onto my existing windows 10 home edition 64 bit that came with the laptop then load diagbox without having a virtual machine.

You could, but you would need to pay to activate. The VM version of Diagbox 9 we use is pre-activated.

If anyone would like a really easy way to install Diagbox 9 directly, then PSA-DIAG have released a simple tool that does everything:

It still requires activation, donations are requested.

8Gb with an SSD should be OK. I'm running V9 (non VM version) on an old 2Ghz core2duo,

The new PSA DIAG installer will light up green if your laptop meets the specs, red if not (see my pic above).

my Core2Duo Acer Aspire 7730 with 4gb ram running XP 32bit.

Anyway, in my excitement, I've decided to try v9 and installed Win7 64bit instead.

You need more RAM. Windows 7 and 10 alone can consume between 2-3Gb without even running any apps.

The cable connects via USB, so changing the COM port speeds will have no effect.
