Correct engine oil for Peugeot 308 SW 2018 1.2 Petrol

Hi,

I’m having to top up the oil more often than I should. No sign of a leak anywhere inside or outside the bonnet.

I topped it up last month with 5W-30 FJL and already topping it up again.

looking through the handbook, it just says to check the correct grade oil is being used for the engine but it doesn’t state which is correct.

What’s also added some confusion is that the websites that you can place your reg into (eg Halfords, Euro car parts) state two different grades which are 0W-20 and 0W-30.

Can anyone let me know what oil grade to use for a Peugeot 308 SW 2018 1.2 Petrol or where to find the accurate info?

I’m aware that this will likely not solve the oil problem but if I’ve put in the correct oil, I can say I’ve tried everything I can!!

0w 20 is thinner when hot than 0w 30, and tends to be used in colder climates.
0w 30, being a little thicker when hot, might be better if the engine is burning oil.
However, these 1.2 engines are known for using oil, and from what I have read, it's usually a piston ring problem.
Make sure that whatever oil you choose, it meets Peugeot's specification, or you could be storing up cam belt problems!
Thank you. How do I find the correct Peugeot oil spec? It’s not listed in the handbook

Stellantis have been frequently changing the oil recommendation on these wretched engines and it will almost certainly NOT be the same as in your manual.

As I understand it, the most recent recommendation for the 1.2l EB2 petrol engines is 5W30 grade and has to meet specification FPW9.55535/03. The specification is the most important thing.

I would advise that you email customer service quoting your VIN and ask them what the current authorised oil is.
Will do, thank you
