The egr I bought was from euro car parts and I bought a genuine part it cost more than a copy ÂŁ150 + vat still showing a fault " egr valve open" whatever this means I can't afford to keep paying mechanics to guess the problem. Somebody help please

abid, you should start a new thread rather than hijacking this one. The problems you and I are having are not the same so would warrant an alternative thread to discuss your problem seperately.

not sure on peugeots but i know fords use electronic egr systems... now pair that and the fact that both of these suffer electrical faults i would start looking at the wiring loom to ensure that its not damaged etc.

That sounds like fun . I'll see how the replacement goes first. The original did report the same fault but it was definitely knackered as the car runs so much better with this new one in.

could be even down to a sensor on that line which will show up that fault even though something else is to blame...even the sensor itself.

Wiring diagram shows five wires from the EGR go straight to the Engine ECU.

Pin 1: 5V
Pin 2: Motor Negative
Pin 3: Motor Positive
Pin 4: S? Not sure what this is Signal maybe
Pin 5: 0V

If any of those were broken I'm sure the EGR wouldn't work or PP wouldn't clear the fault.

Just had another look at the parameter readings and I noticed that there's another EGR reading for EGR throttle elecrovalve. When I start the engine the copy reading is way off so I'm thinking that maybe it's that EGR valve it's reporting the fault with.

Here's a short video showing of what I mean:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/vhgnhw17j99chtu/2012-10-11 14.08.14.3gp

Notice how one reading says -0% and the other says 9%. These reading were taken after the fault was cleared and didn't come back while I was testing but previously the fault came back after the engine was switched on/off 3-4 time.

Could this be the problem?

Just found some more informaton on the P0409 fault code:

Description: Electric EGR valve position copy siginal : Valve sitcking during the initialisation

Valve sticking for 8 seconds during the initialistation of the powerlatch (between switch off using the key and the ECU going to sleep)

Still having problem with this. I managed to find the original part which has the following on the label:

Johnson Controls
9649358780
21597518-1
4170/9369

Does anyone know what the difference is between the EGR valve Electrovalve and the EGR Throttle Electrovalve?

Which one of those relates to the EGR valve that diverts the exhaust gas back into the engine (which is the one I replaced)

Hi Ribs,

Do you have the engine management light on with the P0409 fault and is your MPG good and does car drive ok?
Are you only seeing an issue because you are scanning for errors? If so my advise is leave it alone and be glad your car drives ok now with new egr.
I have a similar story with my 307 egr see http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/307-38/peugeot-307-egr-problem-19713/index2.html
The conclusion to this after fitting a Peugeot part and having car in peugeot garage for days is that i now have a P0405 error on the ECU which also gives me the engine management light. I can clear it with planet but it will come back after couple of restarts. I have been driving like this for 8/9months All wiring confirmed good by myself and by dealers. To fix mine now i need a new ECU according to dealers.
Funny thing is my car had no engine management light going into dealers but did have a couple of faults on the ECU which i could not get rid of even with new peugeot EGR and coded with planet. Car came out of dealers (after two visits) with new fault code, engine management light on but the MPG was good and drives fine. At this stage i have learned to ignore the engine management light as i wasnt prepared to fire any more money at it. Plan is to remap it out of the ECU and along with the FAP at some stage (not to far away as i a have 85Kmiles up now). On the plus siide i am now getting 700miles from a full tank (keeping to 70MPH on motorway
I will throw it on planet this evening and take a couple of pics of the EGR parameters for you to compare.

Thanks for the reply bcolemax, the car runs perfectly, in it actual fact the car runs as good now as it did the day we bought it.

The new EGR valve made such a difference to the running of the car but it just niggles me that the engine light is on and the anti-pollution fault comes up every time the car is started.

I have spoken to the guy who I bought the EGR valve off and he has agreed to send me an advance replacement, what I'm going to do is fit the replacement to see if that cures the problem, if not I'll send it back to him and fit the original he sent and just give up.

It's just annoying now, I've spent a lot of time and money getting the car running this well and just wanted to get rid of the last fault code.

I'd be interested to hear if your EGR throttle readings fluctuate a little like mine do.

I feel your pain...

One thing the Guy in dealers said was that its common for connector plug that gos onto the EGR to give trouble. He claimed that was an issue when i brought the car in but im not so sure as i had continuity checked it before it went in. He reckoned once they have been unplugged a few times that it can widen the little terminals in there. He said mine wasnt passing an actuator test thats why they went looking at it but the actuator test was working for me before it went in so i dont know. Its just something i remembered that might be worth checking..
The other thing that may sort it is software upgrade on the ECU but i wouldnt pay for that again as PP wont automaticly recognise the ECU afterwards, diagbox probably will alright though.

Will try and hook it up this evening and get back to you

So Ribs i hooked up my 307 with the P0405 fault and took shots of egr parameters off, idle and a video with car running. Due to the fault on mine it wont be any good to you as they are nearly all blank.
Then i hooked up my 1.6hdi 5008 which has no faults at all and took the same shots and video so you can compare yours to a known good one. Let me know if you have issues with the link as i am new to dropbox :)

Your EGR Throttle electrovalve OCR and your EGR Throttle position copy are defininitely behaving very different to the 5008 as you will see in the video.

Hope this helps and you get your egr issue resolved.

Thanks bcolemax for taking the time to grab those screenshots and videos. Your 5008 readings are on par with mine so I think everything is fine.

I'm going to try two more things before I give up on this:

Replace the EGR valve as the seller has agreed to send me an advance replacement to try.
If that doesn't cure it I will put it in to Peugeot for an ECU update, I got a price of around ÂŁ50, if that doesn't cure it then I'll give up and live with it.

Thanks again. I'll update this thread when I have done the above.

EGR sticking on programming

Did you ever cure this fault.I have the same fault. New download carried out by Peugeot dealer. Programmed using Peugeot planet. Genuine part used.still comes up with same fault. Any help appriciated

Nope didn't cure the problem, still have the anti pollution fault come up everytime the car is started.

Given up now, the car runs fine so i past caring.

egr

hi guys we have managed to buy a new egr valve for our 4007 for 100 pounds but nowe garages are telling us it will be ÂŁ400 pounds to fit it shureley this cant be right?

VF33H9HZC83714283

The part no I search for and ordered was: 1618NR

ATTENTION TO ALL, valeo has released at TSB tech bulletin on this issue and we are also Peugeot specialist mechanics. If U fit a non genuine Egr U must only fit a valeo and there is two parts that look identical but work differently internally. One suits ford volvo and other suits Peugeot Citroen only. Fitting a non genuine eBay or other Chinese copy part will not work and will cause ecu issues or continued faults to occur and unable to Program. We have been through this ourselves and now only fit genuine or valeo and the 9hz valeo number is 700414, the cheap Chinese eBay valves seem to be ok for Volvo or ford and don't log ongoing faults after install. I will put the technical bulletin from valeo which discusses the issue and fitting correct one will work perfectly. 700414 is what comes out of the genuine peugeot Citroen packaging from dealer.

I hope this helps all of U overcome fitting poor quality eBay or cheap after market parts.

For a note do the same for Citroen Peugeot 2.7 V6 hdi and only use valeo or genuine or U will have issues. Mainly from position sensor faults caused by different electric operation compared to ford Volvo Landrover with same motor.
