Just had my first MOT for my 308GTi, recommended from Peugeot for complete new Discs & Pads as inner pads down to 3mm and discs worn, estimate £1479, for a car that’s had an easy 17k miles. Took the car to my local MOT station , who advised just change pads as disc lipping was normal & not bad, so having pads replaced at the dealer for £389 & expect to do the same in 3 years time. Motto for me is don’t have MOTs at the dealer, do it independently and if I had my choice of car again ( hindsight a wonderful thing) I would have bought a 250 bhp GTi with normal brakes, & comes with a space saver but the problem is trying to find a excellent 1owner 250 bhp GTi !

Hi, I hope your calipers are ok and last another 3 years without any seizing. You can get after market pads btw and it will be cheaper, possibly better to use an independent garage. Avoid Peugeot franchises once out of warranty period. Good luck

Hi,
That is the cost for the standard 308’s. I’ve had a nightmare 3 months with my local Peugeot dealer because my front discs were warping. Eventually agreed a price, date etc to have them replaced ( Parts not available at first!) then they called saying my callipers had seized and needed replacing too!! Total bill circa £3.5k !!!! I told them to stop. Btw my front shocks needed replacement too! 5 year old car 35k, dealer serviced, looked after. Shocking ( no pun) I won’t touch a Peugeot again.
Update **
I sent my calipers off to Godspeed at Bridgend who refurbished them with new stainless steel pistons. They supplied new 380mm discs plus pads all for under £1500! Half the money Peugeot wanted! All working and looking well 😀

Hi, could you tell me the make/ item part number, thanks

Hi, could you tell me the Mintex item code please and whether the RCZ R has the 380 mm discs exactly the same as the 308 GTi, thanks very much.

Hi, do you mean the pads? There are several that are compatible with the Alcon Big Brake kit. My advice would be to look at Godspeed online. They offer the usual Yellow stuff, Green stuff etc but also a more basic set that are fine for on road use. ( No track day usage) they have an Instagram page too that shows their own 308GTi 270 variant which they race on track days using their own brake parts.

That’s great news I they have a good reputation, sent them my old disc for them to make them for the RCZ R As they have a different offset to the 308 GTI the discs are the same .

I found them on e bay search rcz r 270 thp front pads Iv had them in a month now an there plenty good enough for spirited road use Iv used mintex for the last 30 years on various cars .

I have a set of new used Genuine Peugeot 308 GTi Alcon pads if anyone is interested. Bit of a story with the pad/discs the front discs warped after 20K miles mostly motorway driving the disc had almost no lip on them and the pads had plenty of meat left on them so not even close to being run out, the dealership confirmed the pad/disc thickness and the amount of warp when they investigated heavy vibration under braking. But not a manufacturing fault it would seem. Both sides were out by slightly different amounts.

I will say under normal driving conditions they are known to last a long time, the cars are light and the brakes are powerful, granted you can add speed very quickly so do need them.

The car was 24 months old but unknown to me Peugeot warranty on discs is 6 months 6000miles so dealership refused to say to Peugeot its a warranty claim as not covered. Interestingly I was told that warped discs are covered by the exteneded warranty so was considering waiting a year and getting them changed under that policy. For what they cost I could buy another car and leave the Pug in the garage.....

I had lengthy discussions with the dealer and Peugeot but the dealership was insisting it was my driving style..... I said how do you drive to get discs to warp? I kid you not I was told if you get them red or white hot you can get them to warp like the F1 Grid at the start of the race by being stationary with my foot on the peddle. Now! I am a seasoned driver lets say and done I would estimate 700K+ miles in my driving career but I have not yet been able to get discs on a road car white hot, faded yes warp no. I said to the dealer 380mm 4 pot Alcon Le Mans inspired "floating discs" should be able to take a bit of stick and I would say almost do some track work. Totally lost on them.

Long story short the lady as Peugeot was less than useless and just kept saying I am not a mechanic I know nothing about cars funny but she works on warranty claims 🤥. After a number of calls with Peugeot directly and escalation to a manager and mentioning the ombudsman a few more calls with the dealer principle dealer Peugeot agreed to replace the discs and Pads free but I needed to pay the £120 to have them fitted. It was £1300 all in i think so worth a few calls.. You can buy the EBC Pads and OEM discs online and get them fitted at a normal garage for £900 with some delivery. Still seems a lot, Godspeed are just undercutting Peugeot on discs but you can get the pads cheaper elsewhere.

I had EBC yellow stuff fitted and kept the OEM pads in the box, EBC less brake dust and much better cold bite I would guess 10% if not more braking power over OEM, I have had EBC discs/pads before Greens and Reds all better than OEM. Reds are the best all round almost no dust and good bite from cold. My guess is the OEM pads have way to much steel in them to keep them quite but that causes increased rota wear and creates load of dust at over £381.87 a side keeping that down is important. Seems to me the steel used to make the discs could be better. I read somewhere they are cast machined by Alcon but not sure about that. I hope not.

I have to say I was given the BS from the dealership that you are lucky to get discs and pads to last 20K, My god what on earth are people doing in these cars. Again poor quality steel and cheap pads fitted at the garage. My partner has a 208 it has front discs the size of a saucer and she managed 40K.

Went on a bit there LOL.

Enjoy........

Hey, well done for perseverance. I tried almost as hard with the dealership in fact I thought on reading your post it was the same dealership but when you got the job done so cheaply I knew it wasn’t lol. It is ludicrous for them to blame driving style. I had exactly the same said to me!
I don’t think you mentioned the calipers? Beware that you can suffer the same warping due to the Alcon/Peugeot caliper pistons rusting and seizing. That it appears is the root cause of the rotors warping and uneven pad wear.

Hi,

I have not had caliper issues yet but expecting that soon. The dealership checked for binding calipers, they said if we could see that they would get it done under warranty.
The fronts do bind but not all the time you can feel it on the steering at higher speeds 70/80ish. When I stop I often check the temps of the discs with the back of my hand to see if there is binding if they are hot i will be straight around to the dealer. But not had any pulling left or right since the disc and pad change. Maybe the pistons are further in the caliper as the pads and discs wear it may return.

I have the extended warranty really only to cover the discs and calipers as they are crazy prices so if I do need to claim the annual cost will payoff.

In some ways great to hear I am not the only one with warped discs shame you had the cost, but you have to question why there is no a recall and if not that why dont they not just replace the discs when they fail. I can see the cost is high but they must see a number of these at Peugeot customer service a month. Cant do the Peugeot brand any good at all.

I have a later 19 plate 263 version were the calipers/pistons changed from the RCZ R and 270 GTis? There is an extra black triangular part added at the bottom end of the caliper where its closest to the road/wheel so some changes were made. Does any know?

I think you mean the anti-vibration blocks. Mine are off now as not compatible nor required with the rotors that Godspeed supplied. Peugeot only used these Alcon big brake system for about 30 months on the 270bhp 308’s so they don’t give a toss about a few customers who bought a 30k car rrp that is
