I have a set of new used Genuine Peugeot 308 GTi Alcon pads if anyone is interested. Bit of a story with the pad/discs the front discs warped after 20K miles mostly motorway driving the disc had almost no lip on them and the pads had plenty of meat left on them so not even close to being run out, the dealership confirmed the pad/disc thickness and the amount of warp when they investigated heavy vibration under braking. But not a manufacturing fault it would seem. Both sides were out by slightly different amounts.
I will say under normal driving conditions they are known to last a long time, the cars are light and the brakes are powerful, granted you can add speed very quickly so do need them.
The car was 24 months old but unknown to me Peugeot warranty on discs is 6 months 6000miles so dealership refused to say to Peugeot its a warranty claim as not covered. Interestingly I was told that warped discs are covered by the exteneded warranty so was considering waiting a year and getting them changed under that policy. For what they cost I could buy another car and leave the Pug in the garage.....
I had lengthy discussions with the dealer and Peugeot but the dealership was insisting it was my driving style..... I said how do you drive to get discs to warp? I kid you not I was told if you get them red or white hot you can get them to warp like the F1 Grid at the start of the race by being stationary with my foot on the peddle. Now! I am a seasoned driver lets say and done I would estimate 700K+ miles in my driving career but I have not yet been able to get discs on a road car white hot, faded yes warp no. I said to the dealer 380mm 4 pot Alcon Le Mans inspired "floating discs" should be able to take a bit of stick and I would say almost do some track work. Totally lost on them.
Long story short the lady as Peugeot was less than useless and just kept saying I am not a mechanic I know nothing about cars funny but she works on warranty claims 🤥. After a number of calls with Peugeot directly and escalation to a manager and mentioning the ombudsman a few more calls with the dealer principle dealer Peugeot agreed to replace the discs and Pads free but I needed to pay the £120 to have them fitted. It was £1300 all in i think so worth a few calls.. You can buy the EBC Pads and OEM discs online and get them fitted at a normal garage for £900 with some delivery. Still seems a lot, Godspeed are just undercutting Peugeot on discs but you can get the pads cheaper elsewhere.
I had EBC yellow stuff fitted and kept the OEM pads in the box, EBC less brake dust and much better cold bite I would guess 10% if not more braking power over OEM, I have had EBC discs/pads before Greens and Reds all better than OEM. Reds are the best all round almost no dust and good bite from cold. My guess is the OEM pads have way to much steel in them to keep them quite but that causes increased rota wear and creates load of dust at over £381.87 a side keeping that down is important. Seems to me the steel used to make the discs could be better. I read somewhere they are cast machined by Alcon but not sure about that. I hope not.
I have to say I was given the BS from the dealership that you are lucky to get discs and pads to last 20K, My god what on earth are people doing in these cars. Again poor quality steel and cheap pads fitted at the garage. My partner has a 208 it has front discs the size of a saucer and she managed 40K.
Went on a bit there LOL.
Enjoy........
