Hi All

After being told that my front discs are likely to need to be replaced next year for a fitted cost of £1,750 I thought I would try and find alternatives in readiness... Its been a challenge, Alcon won't discuss the brakes as they have an exclusive deal with Peugeot and I don't think the car is common enough for many after-market suppliers to make them. But i have found two so far:

Tarox - £1,018.80 (inc VAT) for a pair

MTEC Brakes - £750 (inc VAT) for a pair

Both are two piece discs, MTEC said they would also sell just the rotors for £500.

It would be good to hear if anyone has tried either of these alternatives, or if you are aware of any others.

Hi i've just acquired a 270hp (200kw) gti, appreciate this post is a bit old, my discs are ok now but will need replacing within next year, but i can find a brembo front disc for this specific model from my reg plate or general search at what we'd consider a normal price?

Brembo Part code 09.C133.11

It isnt a 380mm dia. though its at 304mm.

Im not technically minded, what am I missing?

Yeh i know they are 380, thats my point really, i thought ALL 270hp variants were 380 dia. out the factory, and if they all were, then how come brembo offer 270hp variants at a lower diameter!

Interestingly if i goto Peugeot website new discs and pads for my plate are just £199 fitted....try it yourself!

What's the VIN of the car in question?

I could fire up Service Box & see what diameter brakes it rolled out the factory with.

I have gone the lengths of Tarox discs and the stainless caliper pistons on mine but I have now got extra vibration on hard braking and have been told that inner pistons are sticking again. Argh! Losing faith in the calipers so has anyone done the 250hp model conversion, willing to share what costs are, also does anyone have a 308gti 250 model and willing to share their reg number as was told that is the easiest way to get the parts ordered. Thanks. PS front brake issues are a disgrace but the rest of the car is - unbelievably good - so reluctant to give up on it.

KJ16BKZ (from Autotrader) seems to be a 250 with the smaller brakes.
Thanks, that’s helpful. Also looking into whether problem is with seals not being replaced at last caliper rebuild. Godspeed say they will offer a rebuild service as I already have their stainless pistons. Vibration could be due to deposits from disintegrating pads after a track day.

Hi did you manage to change the brake setup on your 270 to a 250 set up please
Hi, after making the investment in Tarox and deciding the car was a ‘keeper’, I sent the alcon calipers to Godspeed (who had supplied the stainless pistons), and they rebuilt with all new seals. Then new yellowstuff pads, and all is now well, so turns out that the problem second time around was fried pads from track day sticking to discs, and first time of rebuilding, new seals hadn’t been used. So doing it this way but with getting calipers fully rebuilt first time including labour from local garage would be c £1500, if you feel that is ott then I am sure others have gone for the 250bhp discs plus calipers conversion.

Thank you for reply, it's definitely food for thought in weighing up the options,

May I ask why you chose the tarox and not the mtex please

I was under the impression that all 308 gti's at the higher 270hp / 200kw power came with the Alcons. Maybe thats my error hence why the Brembo fronts for that model variant was puzzling me.

Hi,
That is the cost for the standard 308’s. I’ve had a nightmare 3 months with my local Peugeot dealer because my front discs were warping. Eventually agreed a price, date etc to have them replaced ( Parts not available at first!) then they called saying my callipers had seized and needed replacing too!! Total bill circa £3.5k !!!! I told them to stop. Btw my front shocks needed replacement too! 5 year old car 35k, dealer serviced, looked after. Shocking ( no pun) I won’t touch a Peugeot again.

All 270 thp are 380 mm that’s the rcz r an 308 gti but 308 gti done a 250 thp that used the front discs from a 200 thp . The difference between the 380 R an 380 gti discs is the bell there is about a 5mm difference in the offset, but there is a solution god speed brakes in Wales make stainless pistons with a seal kit for 290 that don’t rust like the stock ones an they also make the discs an bells to fit the 308 gti but not the rcz r yet .
I have just purchased some new discs from fish brothers Swindon Peogout dealer for 698 for a pair once Iv fitted them in the next week or so with the Godspeed stainless piston kit and mintex pads (30) odd quid I’m sending my old rcz r discs to them so they can make bells an discs for the r as well
Hope this helps
