Does anyone know how easy or difficult it is for a mechanic to change the power steering pump on a Peugeot 307cc 2004? Approximately how long should it take?
I'm looking at buying a remanufactured pump off eBay (24 month warranty) and getting it fitted by a mobile mechanic, one has said the rack has to be dropped.
Thanks.

It depends on what condition it is in and if it's front or back.

IF the bolt comes undone with no issues you can can a rear sensor in about 15 mins, if the bolt snaps it can be a hour or more to strip of the hub and drill out the bolt.

Similar for the front if the bolt comes out and it not corroded into the hub 15 Mins if you end up drill the old sensor or bolt its a hour or more.

Do you know what the code is as rear sensor get corrosion behind the sensor which just needs cleaning off and the gap resetting to work again, there are also issues with sensor wiring failing by the f uel tank

I bought an i970 icarsoft reader which is for Peugeot Citroen vehicles and this is what it came up with, deep breath...
Right Front wheel speed sensor Coherence permanent fault change from high frequency reception to antiscanning.
U0404
P0711 transmission fluid temperature sensor A circuit range/performance.
P0680
Ignition coil control short circuit to positive.
Remote fault injection throttle potentiometer signal (CAN).
Permanent fault on the following items:
Right side light short circuit to positive
Boot lighting ditto. Open circuit.
Courtesy light open circuit.
Outside temperature sensor short circuit.
Ditto open circuit.
Absence of communication with steering wheel sensor.
Intermittent fault coolant temperature sensor (heater matrix) short circuit.
Steering wheel angle sensor signal S11 fault shirt circuit to positive or earth.
Ditto S21 ditto.
That's it apart from the garage I had it recovered to which said no communication with power steering pump assembly.
Bet you wished you hadn't responded now😜. Thanks.

I'm sure on that year there is no power steering ecu. Its a dumb unit the pump runs whenever the engine is running and just acts like an old fashioned engine driven pump.

Later model cars such as 207 have an electric motor in the rack or steering column which do have an ecu.

Coherence faults are normally sensor gaps or failing sensors dirty sensor rings

It does have a power steering ECU, it's not a dumb pump like the 206 HDi one. It's got variable assistance etc.

I don't see a DTC for absence of comms to the power steering ECU. You have an issue with the steering angle sensor (used for the ESP the CC models had as standard) which is different though.

Is this a crashed vehicle? Loads of errors... What's the background?

Have you tried clearing codes and seeing what comes back.

Is the car an auto as the transmission fluid would only relate to an auto

The open circuits on the lights could be someone has fitted LED bulbs

i would be checking all the fuses and the fuse box for water entry (which could also affect power steering pump) before looking at anything else

I've cleared the codes but the car can't be driven as the steering is impossible to turn.
It is an auto.
53000 miles.
I took the fuse box out to check the 70amp power steering pump fuse and all were fine.
I drove it one day and the next day the wife got in and the steering couldn't be moved more than a few inches.

Had the car for 16 years, registered to dealer from new and bought with 3000 miles on the clock.
I'm thinking of buying a remanufactured pump off eBay at £120 and getting a mechanic to install it. Also an abs sensor, change transmission fluid, oil and filter change.
Do you think it is worth spending this amount of time and money on it?
53000 miles on the clock.
Was considering getting a new Dacia Duster at £11300 plus buying additional 4 years warranty at £400 for peace of mind as we are nearing retirement and it would be our last car purchase.
Thanks for your time.

Sorry I gave you wrong info before the CC models do have an PAS ECU (still built into the pump in the wheel arch)
Wiring diagram attached for info. have you checked fuse 3 as well as the maxi fuse

I've ordered a remanufactured pump from Poland (£120 delivered) with 24 month warranty and an abs sensor. Need fluid which is total fluide dB I believe.
Mechanic quoted £120 to £150 labour so going to see if this solves some of the problems and keeps it on the road a bit longer 🤞
