Hi, I have a 2010 3008 2.0 hdi exclusive.
One of my day time running lights has stopped working. My mot is this Saturday will it fail my Mot?
Also is there a way I can turn them off because it looks horrible with just 1 light working. Thanks Arron

Hi. I turned mine off in the menu options on the centre consul, if I remember rightly you have to have the ignition on but the engine not running to access it.

There are lots of options in there can’t remember exactly what heading it’s under so have a hunt around.

My car has been through a couple of MOT’s with them turned off so no problem.

I see you've figured it out, my passenger side bulb blew so I did the same as I refuse to pay over ÂŁ30 to replace it. There's also no legal requirement whatsoever to have them on, only a Eu directive for manufactures to fit them. IMO they're useless anyway.

DRL's can make certain cars more visible to oncomming traffic in specific lighting conditions. The trouble is they are only front lights and I've lost count of the number of people I've seen on motorways apparently driving without lights only to pass them and find they have DRL's on. They start the car in the dark, see the light from the DRL's come on and think they have their lights on.

You will always have numpties who cannot find the AUTO setting on the light stalk that most cars seem to be equipped with these days….

DRLs DO help improve the safety on our roads, so if you have it, best to run it.
I honestly don't understand the logic that for the sake of a few quid every 4-5 years that these bulbs tend to last that people choose to turn them off or don't bother replacing them when they fail.
From 2011 all cars must have them in the EU, and that includes the UK. If your car is 2011 or later and they are turned off and the MOT technician does not fail your car, then he has made an error.

And if you ever drive on the continent, in most EU countries you have to have either dipped beam (higher power consumption hence fuel usage) or DRL active in daylight hours. In the UK that does not seem to apply. Instead we get numpties with their sidelights on and fogs as a dipped beam replacement in pitch black dark.

We need some more driver education, and coppers willing to stop offending drivers.

I never use them on my 1.6HDI auto .......

at the time of looking at them I had read several posts on here that claimed that they over powered the indicators .....

when we bought it we tried a few tests and decided the loss of DRL v indicators

came down on the side of the indicators ....

I am not for one min being scientific .... just my opinion

on my 5008 (with bixenon) DRL uses a standard BAY15d bulb, same as rake bulb / side light on the rear of most cars. These bulbs can be had for under a quid each so wear and tear / cost of replacement is negligible and replacement is quite easy too. And also they do not seem that bright to overpower the indicators plus they are quite far apart from the indicators not he xenon units. I understand it may be a slightly different situation on the halogen headlights.
