Hi everyone, not been on for a while as i've been decorating and my laptop has been down and only just got around to putting it right! Unfortunately it's not the only thing that's been playing up. A few weeks ago the Pug's engine started to cut out occasionally, but would restart almost immediately. Got SWMBO to put some Shell in instead of Sainsburys and it had been ok for a couple of weeks until yesterday when it would'nt start first thing. It was my boy's fifth birthday so i couldn't look at it until today. The lift pump was silent but F2 in the engine fuse box was ok so i started hunting for the fuel pump relay. I was told it was under the ecu but this must be for pre-multiplex models as it wasn't there. I had the engine fuse box half out to see if it was under there as it didn't appear to be any where else but i couldn't find it so i connected the battery up again to try my luck. When i switched on the ignition the fuel pump whirred and fuel appeared at the filter! Connected the fuel line, got a jump from my trusty Mondeo and after a few cranks away it went. So what happened? Phoned Pug dealer service dept and they told me the fuel pump relay is mounted on the pcb in the engine fuse box that i had out but all i could see under that was a row of large fuses and if that wasn't the cause was it the bsi reset that sorted it out? If it happens again i will check for 12v at the pump and if not there will look harder for the relay in the fuse box. Anyone had a similar experience.

You wont find the relay in the fusebox as IF it is in the fusebox it is part of the fusebox so the whole fusebox needs replaced !!

IF it is not under the ECU as in older models then it may well be in the fusebox im not sure though.

Had a look at the engine fusebox today and found the fuel pump is fed by the red lead in the central grey plug. When the plug was removed the corresponding pin in the socket had a burn ring around it. Fortunately the pin next to it is connected to the same pcb track and there is no corresponding lead in the plug so i've moved the red lead over to the good pin and will see how it goes. It still could be a dodgy relay, but i'm thinking that the pump was loosing it's live feed intermittently and by moving it around the other day it caused it to work again. If it does play up the pump relay is the same as another in the box so i will just swap them over and see what happens. Worth checking this if you suffer from intermittent pump problems, causing cutting out, particularly if you've just gone over a bump, just driven a few yards after starting ok or if it just won't start.

Well it's been ok for a month now so must assume that it's cured the problem. When it first happened it was being bumped over a kerb so suspect the shock caused the pump to lose its supply, other times it seemed random but cannot be sure if some sort of jolt was involved before it died. Worth checking the pin in the fusebox if you are suffering similar problems:thumb:
