1.6eHDI tuning options with dpf in place

I've read many threads around the subject of tuning the 1.6HDI engine in multiple models and on both 16V and 8V engines.

Much of the information is relatively old so that should mean some quality experience out there of what options worked best in terms of results vs. reliability etc.

I'll start by saying I've experienced both petrol engine mapping and plug and play tuning box addition on a diesel over the years, all successful and without any detrimental effects - quite the opposite.

My question centres around what are sensible tuning (additional torque mainly) options on a 1.6eHDI engine circa 125k miles?

My prior experience all on BMW's and many years ago, the last being the addition of a plug n play tuning box on a 2003 (then new) 330d, which was nothing less than a night and day comparison - it improved all driving aspects with nothing negative, but those were pre-dpf days!

I would greatly appreciate input from those who've got or had mildly modified (mapped 'chip tuned' or plug n play type tune) 1.6hdi engines and particularly any with the 1.6eHDI engine to share their experiences, good & bad, noting I'm not planning to remove the dpf due to legalities

Thanks in advance - car in question - 2013 308sw eHDI 115 manual gear

There are numerous places offering dpf friendly remaps for the 1.6ehdi now most offer around 140 bhp.

I am looking at one for the daughters car. I have a 200 Bhp dpf and dmf friendly map on my 2.0 163. Now on 125k miles with no issues or mot smoke test problems and way better driveabilty

Thank you Windy.

For yours & your daughter's car you have/want a new chip & keep the old for reversibility options, rather than plug n play tuning box type?

As mentioned I'm a little out of date & realise there's a lot of choice out there hence feedback so good to have.

Any particular recommendations? I live in Worcestershire, so quite a large catchment area with the Midlands.

I'm looking for better driveability & mainly more torque plus a little more power works wonders as I recall from the 330d.

Cheers

I have never got on with "Chips" or tuning boxes a remap is normally the best option. Any decent remapper should offer you a copy of your original map if you want one so you can return to stock if needed.

I would have a look on social media for recommendations, HDI Tuning maybe a bit far away in Bristol other options could be a chain such as Celtic Tuning as i have seen good reviews but never tried them

Thanks again Windy! Definitely food for thought. How long does it typically take for a remapper to complete their magic - a couple of hours or so including testing after?
