Has any one on here with a 1.6 HDi read this from the Belingo forum? Attention 1.6 hdi owners - read this and does it make sense from anyone who has experienced turbo failure?

I don't buy that sorry I have had 2 litres with leaky injectors blowing carbon up the injector and the head design is very similar so I would expect the same amount of turbo failures on 2 litres but it does not happen.

In my opinion the turbo fails for a combination of reasons too long service intervals too little oil in the sump turbo is too small and asked to do too much and people drive them with boost leaks making the turbo work even harder.

There is no 1 reason for turbo failure on the DV6 its just a poor design with many potential problems.

I just bought 1 with turbo failure 08 plate berlingo 1 owner van 200000 miles on original turbo :)

the turbo lasted this long because the guy serviced it every 8k miles !

fitted a replacement turbo today and its all fine again

Doesn't really matter which vehicle manufacturer it is, find a forum for that manufacturer and your likely to read stories of blown turbos and it allways turns out to be a poor service regime and / or using the wrong grade oils. When I was considering buying a Renault Laguna I googled for problems with the model and nearly every result was somone complaining the turbo had blown taking out the intercooler and in most cases the engine as well. I nearly looked elsewhere but further reading led me to understand that using the right oil and changing the oil regularly (preferably sooner than the recommended interval) would help prevent the turbo failing disastrously. Same sort of stories on a Vauxhall forum. Have to say I haven't seen too many turbo issues on this forum though. Some but much fewer than the Renault forum.

Renault clio/kangoo 1.5 dci turbos used to suffer failure and engine got a bad name but as storeman says its bad servicing I have had clios for 3 years and never killed a turbo yet I have 7 spare ones !!

Laguna turbos run far to hot and are too small lagunas also burst the intercooler this in turn causes the driver to push it harder to compensate for the boost loss then the turbo gives up.

Bit like making a fat bloke run a marathon there is only so far you can push him before he gives up :)

Must admit the only Renault I've had was a normally aspirated diesel Laguna which was very ecconomical and never had a problem with it even though they used to wear cam lobes. I would agree most turbo failure is due to poor oil or bad servicing. Carbonising of the oil return pipe being a favourite, you only have to look at many petrol turbos to see that is a problem, doesn't normally happen with diesels because they run much cooler but it will if neglected. Some oil additives do not gel with turbos either so it is best just to use oil rather than mixing it with an additive.
