Is it a wet belt?
Is it a wet belt?
Many thanks Paul-R. The reply I was hoping for, a big relief. Thanks again.Diesels don't have a wet belt, just an ordinary dry belt. This means a replacement schedule of (about) 100k miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.
Hi, just checking. My engine is the 2.0L, 150 bhp. Is it still good?It doesn't affect you as you have the same 1.6 8v engine as I do but the later 1.5 16v engines have a dry belt and a separate short chin to connect the two camshafts together. Early 1.5s had a 7mm wide chain which was prone to stretching and then breaking. Later 1.5s had an 8mm chain which solved the problem.
IMHO as far as we, the user, is concerned the 8v 1.6 diesel engine is the best.
Thank you Paul. 👍Yes. Still a dry belt although I don't know how the two camshafts are driven, I've not heard of any specific problems though. The ten year service replacement timetable will still apply even if the mileage is different.
Apologies for overlooking the engine size.
