Hi all,

I am looking to change my spark plugs on a S Reg 1998 306 1.4 8v and I am not sure what the gap should be as in the Haynes manual it says 0.9mm but on a few websites it says 0.7mm

An old trick was to use a cigarette packet and open the flap then measure with the thickness of the cardboard, good simple times eh!
I just do it by sight and have the bendy bit level and straight so from the box and small tap.
You could find the right gap for your fitment and buy some feeler gauges.

If the manufacturer has a size for your fitment then if it is near as damn it to what Peugeot say the go for that but i wouldn't personally worry too much a long as the gap is pretty close, i think you can only go wrong if the gap is extremely big or small.

The rule i have lived by is hand tight and half a turn .
If you have a washer on them they are usually crushable by 1mm or so. I expect there will be some sort of torque angle for them but you'll feel it when the plug gets tight.
Oh and hold the spanner square On and turn with 1 hand turning and the other holding the top or you may snap the head off if that makes sense.
