Hi

My daughter has a2010 308. Recently had a new timing chain fitted, now the car is giving P1340 (Camshaft position sensor B circuit malfunction) and P0087 (fuel pressure too low.). A local mechanic has spent 6 months trying to fix it, sent it back to us "fixed", but within 24 hours it was throwing the codes again. ( He only charged for the timing chain replacement).
Work done so far: Low and high pressure pumps tested (OK) FIlter screen in LP pump replaced. New spark plugs.
I read that the P1340 code may indicate an cylinder misfire (hence new spark plugs).
I would appreciate any suggestions from members.

PEUGEOT 308 1.6 THP 156, EP6CDT (5FV) 2009 - 2013

DTC P0087 Fuel rail/system pressure too low, you could start with changing the fuel filter, the likely components & wiring involved are
(1) Fuel Pressure Sensor.
(2) Fuel Pressure Control Solenoid.
(3) Fuel Pump.

DTC P1340 Cylinder 4 misfire detected, the likely components & wiring involved are
(1) Hall/MRE Sensor on the Camshaft.
(2) Hall/MRE Sensor on the Crankshaft.
(3) Injector 4.
(4) Ignition Coil 4.

I would start the DTC in order given because the second DTC could be triggered by the first.
I can provide testing for these, are you able to use multimeter.

Many thanks.
Apparently there were two models sold here in Australia - one with the filter in the tank/LP pump and one with an in-line filter. Ours has the first set up and has been checked (I looked for the inline filter this morning).
Getting the multimeter out after breakfast!

OK. So I'm back to square one! After trying out various suggestions, I was advised to change the camshaft sensor. With the new sensor, and the battery freshly charged, the engine fired up, ran smoothly and all seemed well. The Check Engine light also went off. Brilliant!
Checked the codes and found P1340, P0087 and now an additional P1336. Next morning, it ran as rough as guts, no power and the cooling fan came on even though the engine was cold (stayed on about 10 minutes after switching off). Read a comment that low battery could be the cause, so recharged again - took 12 hours to get to full charge, even though fully charged just a couple of days earlier (it's a new battery in November last year and the car has spent most of the intervening time in the mechanic's workshop).
Any thoughts?

Has anyone looked at the injectors especially cylinder 4. If the injector's pintle is jamming open it would explain the misfire on cylinder 4 and the low fuel rail pressure. I am not sure why you are getting errors from both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. I am wondering if the fault is being triggered for another reason which may appear to the ECU as a timing error perhaps the misfire on cylinder 4.

These direct injection have somethings in common with diesel engines- a mechanical high pressure pump, high precision injectors, a high pressure common rail and a pressure sensor.
