If the engine has a primer then you will need to pump that whilst cranking. If it doesnt have a primer then you will have to turn the ignition on for 10 seconds, then off do this about 3 times and that will have bled it through.
Yes, it'll self prime on a 54 plate. All dW10's right back to the ark self prime, unlike the DV6.
Cleanliness is the word of the day when changing the filter - grit as small as 2 microns will wreck an injector, and even the best eyesight won't spot that.
