Hey folks,

hope you’re all doing great. I’m on market to upgrade to second hand Peugeot 3008, however from all of the cars that I’ve seen and checked, not a single GT Line I’ve test drove here in Ireland had navigation system and when pressing the nav piano key I saw message on screen ‘Navigation system absent, connect your phone’ nor it had an option on driver dashboard to switch to navigation view. All of those cars were GT Line and 2019 year for Irish market. I really can’t understand why it doesn’t have it, and/or can it be purchased as a software update through dealership?

thanks in advance

There is absolutely no advantage in having that navigation. Maps are slow to update and always outdated. Using Android Auto or CarPlay is far better as Google Maps or Waze for example are almost always up to date. Waze provides speed limit on the roads, speed cameras and so on. All of this for free, and on built in navigation you have to pay for maps and for speed cameras separately.

Well, I agree on Google Maps and Waze part, it's better since it offers good navigation wirh some perks "almost" for free. By almost I mean if you are not in a roaming which you need to pay for. For example if you are in the EU member country, traveling to non EU member country mobile data to run Google Maps or Waze could cost you something. If you use build in navigation it doesn't cost you anything but you dont get trafic anouncements (only via TMC). Me personaly I use Waze for short trips (up to 200km) and Sygic for long trips (500 km and more). Why, you would ask. Well I used Waze for 2 long trips and it went crazy both times (couldn't find correct path to the destination, wasn't driving on the road anymore but on the fields, couldn't lock on GPS, etc). I never experienced this in build in Nav or Sygic, but I prefer Sygic because it shows real time traffic and speed cameras.

We currently drive Renault Grand Scenic Mk IV 2017 with head-up display which shows Apple maps directions whereas Sygic doesn’t. But then again I do have Sygic Premium subscription for EU traveling. I never liked Waze and its layout/design to be honest, however HERE navigation app also seems reasonably good and well designed.

Although built-in sat nav has its own pros&cons such as you mentioned, availability while roaming in non-EU countries.
So I assume you cannot buy it separately to have built in sat-nav on i-cockpit through services shop? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nor locking to gps is fault of your phone. Google Maps has offline mode.

You say you need to pay for roaming, but what about maps for built-in navigation? Maps are not free, in fact, they are quite expensive.

I had an opposite experience. Built in navigation led me to some unpaved road during my trip, I lost an hour going back to correct road. Since then, I never used it again and consider it useless.

Built-in map updates (TomTom) are free, the connected/live TomTom services (traffic, weather, fuel and parking prices, etc) aren't. The speedcam/danger zones service is expensive as is, but if you haven't subscribed any service, you are offered a pack with both services, usually cheaper than each one independently.
I've also proposed changes in maps (through MapShare) and they are usually updated in the next version.

No, you have a RCC (without satnav) and need a NAC infotainment system - different hardware.

That's OK, everyone has his own experience and preffered app. But built-in navigation maps are completely free, subscription to connected services is expensive. And Google Maps offline mode is quite limited I think (30km radius, the last I checked, might be wrong though). I don't know if navigation apps in Android Auto use build-in or phones GPS.

Just remeber when updating maps you need to keep engine running 40+ minutes in the UK for the update to be done and with todays prices on fuel ouchy.

Just filled up at a Tesco £71 GBP to fill the tank of unleaded ... Price was £1.70 litre

Crikey - Here in Australia Petrol varies between AU$1.65 to AU$2.20 depending on the price cycle. We have this stupid thing where the oil companies stick the price up to the max and then slowly reduce it over a period of 2 weeks.

So I always try to fill at the cheap end of the cycle of course.

AU$1.65 = £0.94
AU$2.20 = £1.26

So the £1.70 you guys are forking out is AU$2.96 .. That is just mindblowing.

I'm coming over to Europe in September and will be leasing a diesel 2008 for 6 weeks. I had better bring extra cash to fuel the thing.

Cheers Mike
