I think you need to loosen the subframe on a Peugeot 407 to be able to remove the stering rack. Anyway tried to find info in various sources of which bolts has to be losened. In my case I basically just want to lower the backe end towards the cupe´side. And that seems pretty straight forward. Anyway the next bolt is more tricky. The big one in the wheel house in the picture ? They seem to need a special tool aswell to hold the nut while pullig the bolt. (see pic)

Thanks but I just got that exact same instruction yesturday, it just say "Remove the front subframe with the steering mechanism " :D not what bolts holding the subframe. Since mine are badly stuck in the wheelhouse I am just about to "throw in the towel" on this car and et it go for the junkjard.

I also got that from eManualOnline, but it did not say anything which bolts holding the subframe to be removed. So I guess just remove all of them. Now I have removed all redcrossed and of cource the steering rods, oil lines and connection to the stering column inside the car, also the wheel angle sensor

Removed the big bolts in both wheel houses, had to cut one if them, also removed the lower bolts that connect the wheelhubs. Mansged to lower the SF a bit but still need to lower about an inch to be able to get the shaft out of the car, where it connects to the steering column. i guess just continue removinc bolts is the way to go. At some point I should have got to all that needs to go out. 🤣

I know some guy said it was possible to wiggle it out without removing/lower the subframe but thats a no way. I have already lowered mine about a inch or two but I still need about an inch to wiggle the rod out the hole in the firewall (goes into the car and was connected to steering rod). There is just no room to move the steering rack forward enough to be able to get that rod out :D But I am getting there. Also done this on a few cars BMW M3 E46 and a Saab 9000 but those were easy in comparision.

Thanks, I belive I have those in the eManual, but will start that one up again when (or if) I get to the
"mount everything back part". It was a quite tricky window 95 emulator eGuide I got, so I need to set upp the computer for that every time, lower resolution and so on to get it running..

Just want to say I finally got that thing down. I think it was the trailer arm bolts that held on to it. I had to lower it quite a bit about 4inches as I put a 2 by 4 wood piece as a spacer instead of the axe on previous pictures. So Finally, Hopefully this helps some one else. There was just no way to wiggle the Stering rack out without lowering the subframe. Of cource it would work if no engine in or maby some other engine/gearbox that I have.
I´ve got the 2,0hdi manual gearbox.
