If you take the connector off can you cut both wires off and use normal crimp-on wire connectors and then insulate/weatherproof the join?

Thanks for the quick reply. That's a good idea - I hadn't considered that option to do away with the plastic connector entirely. I'll need to work out how to weatherproof it though...
