fuel consumption

Hello, hoping for some advice. I recently bought a 16 plate 308 mk2 1.6 blue hdi auto and have been watching the fuel consumption closely. since last filling to the top (45ltr) I am almost at half after only doing 150 miles. surely that cant be right? i believe the car is saying i am getting 49mpg. but at this rate ill be lucky to get 300 miles to a full tank

I will admit i can be heavy on the accelerator on the dual carriageways but in comparison to my previous 2008 i was getting so much more mileage to a full tank (50ltr) almost 500 miles

Can anybody suggest anything i can check that may be causing the car to use too much diesel?

Was the average MPG figure showing anything when you bought the car? That might give you an idea what the previous owner was getting.

The auto will get worse fuel consumption than the manual. The average figure shown for the last 500 odd miles for our car is 58.7. This is with me doing most of the driving. Before I retired and my wife mostly drove the car she could easily drop the consumption to nearer 50 so I would say it's mostly down to the driver I'm afraid.

If we go out for a run on fast flowing roads then the indicated mpg can go up to the mid 60s with ease.

One final point. I only use the indicated fuel consumption as a guide to consumption. The accurate way to calculate fuel consumption is to fill the tank to the brim and then measure how much is used until the next time you fill to the brim.
Unfortunately the computer was wiped when I got the car. I am going to drive it till it’s almost dry to gauge a true figure. I guess the difference between cars was the last was a semi automatic and not a full auto as this one is. Just didn’t expect such a drastic difference in consumption especially with it being a newer car.

I also have got hold of a lexa diagbox kit from a mate so gonna use it to see if anything’s been tweaked in the ECU settings.

Using Peugeot's Real World Fuel Consumption estimator

https://www.peugeot.co.uk/consumption-calculator/

Our car is rated at 58.9mpg. I can't find yours because I don't know whether your car is an SW or Hatchback, if it's a 120bhp variant or what level of trim it is! Perhaps you can tell us what the site thinks your car might produce. FWIW, changing the transmission for our car into an auto drops the economy to 52.3mpg, a 10% penalty.
It’s a hatchback 120 bhp active, site says 53.3 mpg so not to far off then. Guess I need to be lighter with the right foot a bit more.
