Hello, I just changed the radio to nac wave 2 from rneg2 in my peugeot 508 2013, I have a question about updating the system. I don't have the VIN of the car my NAC comes from. The question is, do I need to update the software to update the maps? And how can I update software without having the VIN?

@Guinek :
You don't need to update the system/touchscreen/firmware to update the maps. Only the former needs a license key to update, but you don't need to worry about it if your car has a BTA (SOS and Peugeot logo buttons), or if you connect your car to a network (wifi or tethering your phone).

If you really need a license key, you can export your configuration to a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive (the option is in the same menu where you can check for the installed system and maps version) and check the created files. The file names has the UIN of your infotainment system and that's enough to download a license key.

I did it and got one file called "instkey_0D010C0E81D4EA9CE6BC.xlm" after opening it I can't find the number UIN anywhere.
I think I need a program to open this file?

0D010C0E81D4EA9CE6BC is your UIN number.

You can download the license key for the latest NAC Wave 2 firmware version 21.08.87.32_NAC-r1 (UpdateID/MediaVersion = 001315031613548831) and for your infotainment system serial (UIN = 0D010C0E81D4EA9CE6BC) at:
Code:
https://majestic-web.mpsa.com/mjf00-web/rest/LicenseDownload?mediaVersion=001315031613548831&uin=0D010C0E81D4EA9CE6BC

This Peugeot Update software is useless.
The download keeps failing and retrying and eventually it gives up.

I have a 2021 3008 GT. If I use the software it attempts to download:
PSA_ovip-int-firmware-version_44-07-05-22_NAC-r0_NAC_EUR_WAVE4 (firmware) and
PSA_map-eur_15.0.0-r0-NAC_EUR_WAVE4 (maps)
So it seems I need a wave 4 file, not a wave2.
What is the difference between these "wave" numbers?

If I download the files manually from somewhere, what is the procedure to put the necessary files onto a USB, as the Peugeot software also seems to create a licence.key file.

Thanks

@hawkerpaul :
The Wave levels are different hardware revisions, each one have different firmware and maps.
You only need the license key if your car doesn't have any way to verify that key online - internal eSIM (used for TomTom connected services), car connected to some wifi access point or mobile phone tethered to car. That key is only used for firmware updates and you should avoid those if your system is working correctly - you won't see any new features anyway.

You need to extract the .tar update file (if you're using 7-Zip, it must be a recent version that handles "PaxHeaders", and do not use WinZip - or disable the default smart CR/LF conversion option) to a previously FAT32 formatted USB flash drive. Do not copy the .tar file itself to the drive (it will fail anyway, the file is larger than the 4GB file size limit of FAT32).

If you're using macOS and updating maps, run the CleanMyDrive 2 (currently CleanMyMac X) app before ejecting the drive. If you really want to update the firmware, prepare each update separately and do the map update first - it's easier to recover and you can roll back to a previous version.
