dpf/nox issues :(

hi everyone
im starting to see on other sites that many ad blu users are getting similar problems. i have 2017 130 boxer and have owned it for 5 years. im not aggressive with it and i believe ive looked after it well - service every 20k, premium diesel, repair minor faults quickly yadda yadda...

the check ad blu warning notice came on last year ( it had been on in the past, i assumed it was to do with filling up its reservoir, had resolved issues in the past regarding this so didnt pay too much notice) then the dreaded count down appeared. cut a long story short over the last 6 months ive had the dpf fully cleaned, replaced ad blu injector, map sensor, nox sensor and many forced re gens... still the fault code says no comms with the nox and after a few days worth of driving goes into limp mode. also starts dpf cleaning, keep vehicle moving daily now.

im pretty sure the dpf isnt blocked as air was blown through recently and it flows freely, im pretty sure the nox sensors works ok but is secondhand, ad blu warning light doesnt come on anymore, just the check engine one now. i was told it could need a system update, i saw somewhere on the forum that it could be the ad blu unit itself. just had enough now people, any ideas? thanks in advance

I would start by fitting a new Nox sensor after confirming power, ground and communication to it is good, they are pricey but not when compared to fitting a second hand one then numerous other parts and the lost time because you thought you could rule out the Nox sensor after replacing it. once replaced you will likely need to tell the ecu it is new and it will reset the denox system.

To be fair nox was changed last of all, I did it myself- was tight from the dpf but just bolts and electric plug . All the fault codes were reset, not sure if that's the same as the ecu config

For context the ad blu injector was blocked and wasn't working hence the change, map sensor wasn't working and both replaced brand new. Only thing that was replaced from a 33k miles broken van was nox sensor

Did you check the wiring / connectors in relation to communication from Nox back to the ECU. Maybe the sensor is dead or maybe wiring taken a hit under the vehicle or water made way into a connector, for example.

Higher than 1 ohm resistance for canbus network, from point to point on single wire is enough to stop communication. There is normally high and low wire, twisted pair. Not sure what internal resistance is between high n low would or should be for this.

Anyway, some food for thought, hope you find this useful.

I had a feeling it could be a wiring issue as 2 nox sensors not working is unusual unless there's a short in the wire before it. No damage or water ingress noticed when changed over. Either wiring or it needs an update I feel... going on holiday in a couple of weeks so no spare cash to fully explore it, just clear the codes for now
