Can't update software

Hi all!
I have searched but haven't found any solution so sorry if this has been up before.
I just got a used 508 Gt hatchback. When signing up to the MyPeugeot app it told me to update the touch screen and maps. I downloaded the updates (in one file) and transfered the files to a USB stick. When put in the car the update is starting but it is interrupted after just a few seconds saying "the update failed". Have anyone experienced this? My files looks like the attached image. I'm on Mac and have also tried Clean my drive with no success.

I have a similar problem. Niether NAV nor firmware update works. When I insert the usb, the display read 'no media on disk' and then 'update failed due to an invalid file' (or something like that). I have tried 3 different USB, all FAT32, 32GB. Same error every time and for both updates (nav only on usb, firmware only with license). Followed the official guide that came with the files, which seems to be the same as outlined here. Any ideas how to fix the issue?

That is good news if they've finally fixed the Mono Air Con, my Dealer told me that they'd issued a fix for LHD and RHD was hopefully going to get a fix before the end of the year. I've just checked and no updates for me :rolleyes:

Hey guys,

Hopefully this would help someone with similar problems!

I have 17 plate 2008 that was trying for half a day and half a dozen of USB pen drives by using the Peugeot software for Pen drive preparation.

Every time I was reaching the point of writing the files to the USB pen drive, the software would stop with "Writing Error"!

I was suspecting antivirus, bad USB drives, just about everything, untill all of a sudden it dawned on me: Peugeot software is formatting the USB pen drive as FAT32, where the update file is 4.1 GB!?!?!?! Obviously FAT32 cannot accomodate files larger than 4GB - hence it crashes.

What I did was to run the whole process till the Peugeot software formats the USB pen drive, then stop and open Explorer and format quickly the USB pen drive that has been formated by Peugeot to NTFS. Only after the USB pen drive has been formated to NTFS, I would go back to Peugeot software and on the panel saying "Now Peugeot would copy the files to your USB pen drive" I click OK and the copy process completes successfuly.

It is such a shamble that Peugeot would overlook such a small detail - shame!!!!

Hello everyone.
I have a Peugeot GT 508.
I recently tried to update the firmware and navigation maps (version 42-03-33-42_NAC-r0_NAC_EUR_WAVE3)
I downloaded the Peugeot Update app and created a USB flash drive according to the manual.

Unfortunately, the update failed and gave an error.
I tried again for a few days with another USB flash drive, but it still shows the same error. In the workshop they told me that the entire multimedia must be replaced and nothing else can be done.
Please comment has anyone else encountered the same problem and is just changing the multimedia really the only solution?

The current 508 has a wave4 NAC system. Only the original 2018 model had a wave3 and could be converted by the installation of an update to wave4.

  • 42.xx.xx.xx = Wave 4.

All Wave 3 systems could be "converted" to Wave 4 after installing the 42.01.72.32 firmware version. After that only Wave 4 map or firmware updates could be installed.
Then Wave4 updates can be used.
Check your current version in settings, then install the above if still wave3. After that,use The latest Wave4 update.
The information from your dealer is incorrect and they don’t usually get involved with the Touch Screen updates as it would be chargeable.

That version is too old, with expired certificates and impossible to install.

@Ramm :

That "version not compatible with hardware" message might indicate that the system couldn't verify the digital license - either it is not present on the USB flash drive ("license\license_xxx...xxx_00131....key") or it couldn't use a network (internal e-SIM, WiFi, bluetooth tethering, ...) to check it online.
What are the last 8 characters of your VIN?

If your system is still a NAC Wave 3, you need to use the firmware 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0 for NAC Wave 3 (MediaVersion/UpdateID = 001315031622734386) to convert it first to a NAC Wave 4. You could download that firmware from https://download.tomtom.com/OEM/PSA...undle/PSA_ovip-int-firmware-version_42.03.33.42_NAC-r0_NAC-r0_NAC_EUR_WAVE3.tar - it's huge (about 23 GB) because it also has an old (Jun 2021) European map 10.0.0-r0 for Wave 4.

@Templex :

Unfortunately, I don't have any access to the media resources. Since it showed a "blue screen" I have no access to any of the settings.
I use the Peugeot Update program.
I only know that the system update proposal is for version 42-03-33-42_NAC-r0_NAC_EUR_WAVE3.
OK, then you should next try Rui’s download suggestion above. I do remember using that version when it was offered for my first 508 mk 2. Looks like you are paying the price of the first owner not keeping it up to date. I seem to remember though that those firmware updates were licensed to the VIN using the license key file, so hope Rui’s link will avoid that. Good Luck and hope you next post indicates success.

@rui.saraiva :

The last 8 characters of the VIN are JY119319.
With the Peugeot Update application, I create a USB with exactly this update version. It is large 21.7 GB.
I am using this downloaded key:

On the USB, I put it in the created License folder (as it says in the manual).
I am worried about the fact that I cannot connect mobile internet from my smartphone (hotspot) to the Peugeot 508.
And I'm wondering how I can make an internet connection right now with my device to check the license key since it's not working.

@Ramm :

Service Box says you have firmware 31.09.46.62_NAC-r0 installed (and European map 6.3.0-r0). The Majestic API also says you still have a NAC Wave 3
Code:
{"vin":"VR3xxxxxxJY119319","requestDate":"2023-10-20T15:56:40+0200","devices":[{"ecuType":"NAC_EUR_WAVE3"}]}
I would forget about Peugeot Update and prepare the USB flash drive manually:
  • Format the USB flash drive in FAT32 format ("MS-DOS (FAT)" and "Master Boot Record" (MBR) scheme in macOS). You cannot use NTFS or exFAT formats and in Windows you might have trouble to format in FAT32 if your flash drive is larger that 32 GB - use a 3rd party software or the command line ("format x: /fs:fat32");
  • Download the firmware from
    Code:
    https://download.tomtom.com/OEM/PSA/PSASpecialBundle/PSA_ovip-int-firmware-version_42.03.33.42_NAC-r0_NAC-r0_NAC_EUR_WAVE3.tar
    and extract it to your computer. Do not use WinZip, use a recent version of 7-Zip instead - 7-Zip
  • Delete the old map update from your extracted files - the "002315011619637877" folder you could find inside the "SWL" folder;
  • Move the "SWL" folder and the "UpdateInfo.xml" file to the USB flash drive;
  • Download the license for your vehicle and for that 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0 firmware version from
Code:
https://majestic-web.mpsa.com/mjf00-web/rest/LicenseDownload?mediaVersion=001315031622734386&uin=0D01102179D4EA9B9D3C
  • Create a "license" folder in the USB flash drive and copy the downloaded "license_0D01102179D4EA9B9D3C_001315031622734386.key" to it;
  • If you're using macOS, run the CleanMyDrive2 app before ejecting the USB flash drive.

Thank you very much for the advice you give me.
Unfortunately, after several new attempts with 3 different USB flash drives (8GB; 16GB; 32GB) and strictly following the described procedure, the firmware still does not want and does not want to be updated.
The update attempt always ends in the same place. 6-7 minutes after the start.

Despair has really taken hold of me.
I'm now wondering if this is a hardware problem/defect with my media disc.
I really don't know what to do next...

I booked another day for inspection at the Peugeot dealership, but at a different service. They will be able to do diagnostics on Thursday 26.10.

That’s tough, looks like the dealer may have been right all along and the head unit has been trashed, although I find it difficult to believe. Have you tried holding the phone button in for 10 seconds then releasing it to restart the touchscreen? Only clutching at straws now but I would have thought that there would be some secret key sequence to restore some sane configuration from nvram. Rui?

Hello all,
I've just collected a '21 plate 508 GT Line and have prepared everything to update the Nav and firmware, when I stumbled across this forum & post. After reading about Ramm's issues above, I now have the the fear that I may brick the system for marginal gain...
I've already noticed as a right-hand drive, the heat control for solo use is set to the passenger side so I assume that's a bug from the left-hand drive software, so wondering if this will fix that (and other bugs I haven't found yet), or if I should just update the maps only and forget about the system update?
Thanks for any advice.

Jump in and do the updates! I have been doing so for years. just make sure you install the Peugeot Update app on a PC and register your VIN. Also install the MyPeugeot app on your phone. The app has its issues and is basic, but the latest one is not too bad now.
First of all though check the version that is already installed in the car by touching the cogwheel settings, Options,System Settings, System Info then view. The latest touchscreen version is 44.07.05.22_NAC-r0.
If you post yours here someone can let you know more.
