Ive seen the ebay blanking plates, will that fit as my engine is different to the pic?

Just search ebay for the correct one for your car I'm sure there will be one on there if not contact the seller as I'm sure he will be able to help you out

You don't need a blanking plate. Just block the rubber pipe going into the top of it.

I think my egr is kaputt and causing the power to surge at low rpm's though so pipe trick probably wont work?

 

It will work if you seat the valve first with a vacuum gauge. No need of removal then.

Seaech for a peugeot 2.0 8v hdi egr blank and you will find the correct plate assuming yours is an rhy like mine.

There are no negatives really. You may get a little bit of black smoke on acceleration. Im only doing away with mine as its playing up, i do a lot of short runs at the moment. Unless yours is knackered you wont see any performance gains.

Why does blanking the Peugeot 307 HDI EGR Valve system cause these negative effects?

If the EGR valve is blanked off, then no exhaust gasses will recirculate back to the intake manifold and into the engine. – However, the engine ECU does not know that you have blanked off the EGR Valve, so when the Engine ECU calculates how much diesel to inject on each cycle, it will be doing so with the EGR flow included in it’s calculations.

In order to properly remove the EGR valve and stop it recirculating exhaust gasses without the negative effects as described above, you will need to have the engine ECU remapped accordingly to tell the ECU that the EGR valve is to remain shut at all times. The engine ECU will then re-calculate the injection cycle to compensate for the EGR valve being closed and thus you will experience true benefits of having the EGR valve removed.

I see blocking it off gives you more mpg, could this be my problem?
My 2.0 hdi 90 is crap on fuel ie £30 worth I only get around 160 miles around town (my xsara Picasso was better)
How many miles on £30 should I be getting?

i get about 300-370 miles to 50 quid, latelly its been on the lower end of the scale

 

I get between 350-400 miles on £50 and thats with mostly urban driving, 600+ on a full tank. Average on trip computer is always 38mpg+

mines been ;ess having to de ice nearly every day at 3am lol

 

I never rev mine over 2500rpm very often in the lower gears this could be the reason for good mog?. This is probably the reason behind my egr problems..italian tuneup usually sorted the stuttering every couple of weeks but id like it gone.

My old xantia hdi 90 used to return the same miles too.

 

I never hardly go over 3000 rpm but still get crap mpg that's why I thought it could be a egr valve.

 

For the last few tanks of Motion Lotion I have been getting 38.1MPG with a daily run of about 12 miles to and from work not exceeding 60 mph however when I went up to Newcastle a few weeks ago saw more like 45mpg which is an improvement but the wifes Passat 2.0 TDI gets more like 50 - 60 mpg on same runs. I just don't think the Hdi is the most efficient engine around but I like it plus I get around 3 weeks of commute plus little bits of running around at the weekend and approx 500 miles to a tank so Im Happy :thumb:

my 407 hdi

hi chaps.. ive bought a 407 sw hdi .. it has the dreaded depollution fault on it and ive took it to the local garage .. he went thru the diagnostics which had a few faults on... deleted them all and updated and it came away fine... I had it 2 weeks and drove it around as per usual up to speeds of around 65 to 70 and all fine... the other day my daughter and I had a little race in some back lanes in Lincolnshire and I gave it some throttle and ping on came the depollution fault ... put it on the computer and it points to the EGR... anyone got advice ? I must just add that when I first bought the car it was intermittent .. the fault would be on one day and not the next
