Automatic gearbox and stop/start

I have a 2015 308 2.0 BlueHDI Allure with the EAT6 automatic gearbox. For the most part, the gear change is very smooth and is often genuinely unnoticeable. However, sometimes the changes are jerky and I regularly notice it 'lurching' forward when it changes from third into fourth.

Driving in very slow traffic is cumbersome and when in crawling traffic, after the car has re-started from a stop/start motion, the car often judders until I accelerate. The stop/start system is also very keen to kick in when I try to park the car (eg up against my garage door). I'd expect to feather the brake pedal as I approach the garage door but the engine stops prematurely meaning I have to release the brake pedal and then press it again as I edge closer.

The supplying dealer has checked the car, performed a 'reset' on the gearbox and can find no fault. I test drove a couple of 308s with the EAT6 gearbox prior to placing an order but do not recall them being as jerky as mine.

Has anyone on the forum had a similar issue?

Many thanks in advance.

I can confirm that mine is silky smooth all the time.

I've never had any 'jerkyness' or 'lurching'; in fact I've advised many people that it must be one of the best for smoothness and instant response. It mates perfectly with the petrol engine.

Maybe it's the diesel engine that causes the problem for you?

What sort of journeys are you doing? Most of my journeys are Motorway so car gets driven hard. It maybe some sensor causing slow gear/clunky change. I've had it clunky when parked for weeks (car body shop) but was fine after 30 mins of being driven hard.

Must say I love the way the EAT6 operates with my GT180. I feel its really smooth, comparable with the DSG I had in my Octavia Vrs I had a few years ago. It does cut out abruptly when coming to a stop but I generally don't have to worry about this as I don't normally have to park close to anything. Quicker the better it stops to save me fuel!! I do like to put it in manual mode and do the gears myself and this is much better than the manual mode in the DSG box.

Only weirdness (not going to call it a issue as its not) is that, when I set of when its really cold the gearbox holds on to the gears a lot longer than normal. I just normally just flick the paddle and knock it up a cog that way.

That could be down to the cold and possibly risk of stalling the engine at low revs. By holding on to the gears and allowing both the car moment to equalise and have higher revs, the new incoming gear will sit at a higher revs etc. Also the colder weather - gear changes being smoother so the wheels don't slip perhaps.

Currently only 17.5k miles in my GT 180 Auto and have to say it's running very smoothly indeed, no issues at all. Very pleased and have to agree with some others on the thread in saying it's one of the smoothest.

I'd say if it is as jerky as described, would definitely get it looked at, especially as it's under warranty.

I feel the judder when braking hard and I've always assumed this is some kind of engine braking assistance. It's similar to feeling ABS kicking in.

I've booked the car in at the dealer for next week. There's a 'wheezing' from the engine and I have noticed the engine hunting (when idling) now and again.
