The clutch won't engage if the refrigerant pressure is too low. It's a safety measure to pretect the compressor.

The 407 aircon has proven generally very robust, with a few begining to need repressurising due to age and/or lack of use. Check the obvious before worrying further, ie, get the refrigerant pressure checked and topped up if required. Kwik Fit are cheap for this.

 

As chopper said, clutch wont engage if pressure is too low so a leak test/top up is definately reccomended

And again chopper hits nail on the head, its one of the few things kwik fit are good for so i'd head there! :thumb:

when i took mine there for a refill they found a leak, no charge for this diagnosis, fixed it myself and took it back for a top up, sweet as a nut it is now!

 

All sorted... The pipe from compressor to condensor was perished. New pipe from peugeot and a re gas did the trick. Got to change the pollen filter now, any ideas where it is?

Undo the clips holding the carpet trim udnerneath the glovebox and you'll see it. It's in the plastic cannister up and towards the right. Unclip then end and pull the old filter out. The new one will be a bugger to ease in without bending or squashing it and takes some patience.

 

This is where it is on the 307 i would expect something similiar on the 407 -

I live in Kuwait & it's extremely hot, my AC broke down, it turned to be the compressor ..... the problem?? i can't find a used one, the price of the new is 1250$ ... i can't find one in Kuwait or in Lebanon cold anyone find this anywhere in the world?? the car is useless without it

308 a/c faulty.

Hi. I'm not sure if I have the same problem? My air con wasn't blowing cold so had the system re-gassed. Shortly after, it was just as bad as it was before it was re-gassed. I did notice, when the A/C button was pressed (my car has climate control) there was a faint noise coming from the 'system' or possibly the compressor.

I took the car back to the garage who re-gassed it and they say I needed a new compressor at about £600 which I simply cannot afford!!!

After talking briefly to an A/C specialist he suggested it might not need a new compressor.

Have you got any thoughts on my next move? I'm liking the idea that a test with Kwik Fit could help? I'm not near the A/C specialist at the moment.
