Well - thats a bit random....!!

I would try a BSI reset first ( obey the 3 minute rule.. ) then check the connectors for water corrosion under the passenger front carpet by the door - it might be dry on top but wet underneath - as there are a few wires under there that can play silly buggers with the electrics.

If you have a CD player in the boot, check those wires too for water / corrosion as these too can affect things you wouldn't dream of....

I'm only thinking along these lines as the window shouldn't go down when the car is unattended, it only has power when ignition is on and for 30 seconds after the ignition is off ( I think )

Sorry I can't be more specific, electrics confuse me

 

Quite right, the windows shouldn't opperate with the ignition off, but I'm just wondering if it had crept down without you noticing in the first instance?
The drivers door switch bank is worth a look, prise out the little roundy plastic thing amd undo the philips screw and lift it out carefully, they can be tricky little bu@@ers.

Thanks guys, i will investigate and let you know how i get on. Also noticed today that the up/down switch for the window which is on the passenger door ( the window switch located on the passenger side) isn't working at all. I can only operate the passenger window from the drivers side. Would this have anything to do with the window suddenly going up and down on its own? Cheers in advance.

 

Must be linked, check the connectors to both switches, check the pass switch operation when dis connected with a multi meter and wiggle the wires in the corrugated tubes to the doors to see if you can provoke the window to malfunction, likely to be a broken wire.
