When I pull the internal lever to unlock the fuel filler flap it has suddenly ceased to spring open. If I jam the release lever open I can then open the flap by pressing on the right side of the flap but not really the answer. Obviously a spring in some shape or form is missing or broken but I can't see any obvious signs of where it should be or how to replace it. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, the car is an '02 406 2.0 HDi. The cable release works fine and retracts the locking pin as it should but I cannot make out where the spring is that would push the flap open to access the filler cap.
I'm probably being more than usually thick so any more info would be welcome

I opened the flap with a piece of wood pushed in against the opening lever. When I looked in the opened fuel filler cap area, there are two screws top and bottom beside the hinge of the flap.I broke a plastic clothes peg ,and bent the spring open to 90 degrees.I then partially unscrewed the bottom screw, and slid the opened up spring in,with the opened arm up towards the fuel flap. I then tightend the screw up till it locked the spring tight.Works perfectly.takes less than 10 mins start to finish.
