3rd gear crunch

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can advise or experienced this problem Iv just encountered. At high revs or when you want to put your foot down and move to 3rd gear, it’s crunching into gear. Now I don’t know how long this has been going on as normal driving it doesn’t do it just seems to be at high revs. First I noticed it was at the traffic lights other day and wanted a quick off the mark get away and made a crunch into 3rd. Anyone have any ideas? It’s only 2 year old and done 14k miles. Would it be covered under warranty?

Hi, yes that sounds pretty familiar. Mine has a crunchy 2nd gear and it's quite unpredictable, sometimes the shifting is smoother when the car is cold, I have this "experience" since day one, I'm the second owner though. My Peugeot warranty is up in May and I will get them to check on it when my next service is due before the warranty expires.

Mines due a service in a few week going to have to mention it then. I don’t have much luck with warranty repairs though so I’m skeptical about it and being hit with a massive repair bill and them saying it’s a wear and tear problem. Already screwed me over with my old 15 plate 308 and a crumbling timing belt but that’s another story. 😂

Hi, I'm getting this with my 2020 208 on the up shift into second gear (asume its the same gear box as a 308?) even when I'm gentle on the gear changes it just does it when it wants to and it sounds awful. I think mine will definitely be going back to Peugeot for an investigation, especially as Ive got other issues with the car. Sorry I can't be of any help!

Yes I‘ve read somewhere that the manual gearbox is not the strongest point of this model, I reckon it hasnt really developed as PSA must have invested more time and money into their automatic gerarbox development. If I’m informed well I’m not really surprised that the new 308 isn’t even coming out with manual gearbox in the UK anymore. It’s a shame as we are losing more and more of the driving pleasure.

Hope you got yours sorted?

I sold my beloved 308sw GT line with a fault and lost money, as It had the 1.2 Puretech engine oil belt issue.

Now I’ve just picked up a 308sw GT line 19 plate 1.5 diesel from a main dealer, 2 weeks ago. Soon as I got it I had the Adblue warning light and audible warning, as they had given me the car with a near empty tank, not good as had to divert off M1 to get tank filled up. Also tyre pressures hadn’t been stored so had to stop to do that as warning lights were on. Air con has been whining since I’ve had the car, put an email into dealer soon as I got home. Air con on doesn’t keep the windscreen clear on any setting apart from having the one touch front demister button on, but that’s far from ideal.

Now getting onto the gearbox it’s an automatic 1.5 BlueHDI 130 diesel. 24k on clock. Have had the gearbox error fault, fixed EML and audible warning, logged on screen diagnostic whilst driving in “D”. Car using sat nav to divert to local garages.

In D - Gears have been sticking on 3, revs have been too high when the gearbox is still on D changing between the gears, and making too much noise, when going into sport mode the gear sticks on the one you activate S mode on.

Obviously when engine turns off this resets, so tried again and it all kicked off as above when trying to drive again, car showed same gearbox fault as above - went into limp mode this time. With ice symbol and S flashing away on dashboard.

Complained to dealer about all the issues and there’s a lack of comment on my issues, says take it to local main dealer for repair.

Have contacted 2 local dealers and no appointments till mid December, they also it may not be fixed under warranty. Not good and that’s a month away.

Prob best to reject this car sadly. Think I’ve got 30 days to reject a car with faults like this.

Shame as I do like these cars, and there’s a lack of replacements in the market 😐

sounds like a bit of a lemon to me, if that was me I’d of rejected straight away with all them faults not worth the stress. I had the belt issue in my 15 plate 308 dealer conned me into upgrading to a newer 308 saying it needed a new engine but got the full value of the car as it was a known fault with Peugeot at this point although they wanted to give me £1k less. Funny that it was back on the road not long after I sold it so doubt it had a new engine replacement. However going back to the gearbox, Iv managed to get it sorted on the warranty. Re adjusted the linkage and greased them up. Been define since so happy about that.
