Stepper motor
My wife's Speedo failed recently and the local Peugeot garage wanted to charge 590 Euros to replace the entire instrument cluster!!!
I found this forum and took Posoo's advise (see earlier posting), ordering a new speedometer case (39 Euros). I then realised it might be the Speedo stepper motor (65 Euros) so I ordered that too, on the same website. They arrived from Finland after just a few days and after reviewing a video on YouTube demonstrating how to remove the panel I accessed the inner workings of the speedo and replaced the speedo stepper motor only, which in fact has it's own case so the speedometer case that I had ordered was not necessary. I have since sent that back and have been promised a 39 Euro refund. The speedo now works perfectly well, and my wife now thinks I'm wonderful (hope that lasts!).
A couple of points though......it's not easy to get inside the instrument cluster. Once you have removed it from the car patience is needed as you work around the unit to find the various latches and gradually work the unit out of it's shell. I figured I had nothing to lose if I made a mess of things, as Peugeot would just change the whole thing anyway.
I made myself comfortable at the kitchen table with the unit on a large hobby tray, a few tools, and a coffee. I broke a few small latches unfortunately but a bit of tape kept it all in place afterwards, and it's all hidden beneath the dash anyway. Also, take a photo of the needle positions on all the other instruments before starting, because you will be taking all the needles off to access the stepper motor, and need to know where they were pointing when you put them back on! The electric contact needles on the new speedo stepper motor were much longer than the ones on the old one, so I carefully clipped them to size. Works a treat! :thumb:
