Given it's a DI engine, I'd go for carbon build up.
Especially if it's a tootle round town car.

Although lean and missfire could be HPFP (a THP issue) or engine timing (chain/tensioners, again THP issue)

Take your pick.

 

Yes, those were our first thoughts, carbon has been cleaned (walnut blast) and timing chain replaced, last year.

HPFP? You don't think that it's more likely a problem in the intake camshaft timing system? Like they mention here:

I forgot to mention, we replaced also the turbo coolant pump.

High pressure fuel pump. Although if it's been going on for the length of time you mention I'd have assumed it would have already failed rather than limp on.
Although you never know.

HPFP's are a bit of a known issue on this series of engines, BMW covers them for 8 years under warranty, Peugeot unfortunately dont. Would get the car checked out soonest to be honest with you, not a cheap part but you may get a good will gesture from Peugeot if the car is just out of warranty.

 

It's one of the first THPs, a 2008, 57reg, 308.

Resurrecting an old thread, but my 2017 308 GT has suddenly run into problems with the 1.6 THP. On my way home from work one day, it went into limp mode (engine and Service light in amber), with misfires and a severe loss of power. I was able to get home, and nurse it to the Peugeot dealer the next day. Barely.

The dealer is still trying to figure out what's wrong with it, given multiple fault codes. They tried replacing the HPFP but that did not resolve the issue......now they're going to try and replace the fuel tank. I get worried when dealers just start throwing parts at a problem......

The car is just out of warranty (52k km or 32k mls) so the dealer will try to get some goodwill from Peugeot as I just had the 2 year service done at the dealer.

Am I the only one with this problem ? Would have figured by 2017 they would have ironed out most of the problems with the THP motor.
